Just a small update

I finished up the belt crusade and took the truck for a run on a back road. New belt setup seams like it it will work. While out on test run I sliced a 3” hole in the rear tire. I was on a fairly busy back road and about 10-15 people passed me and the only one to stop to see if I needed help was a guy driving a Tacoma ! Anyways got the flat off and the spare on and away we gooooooooo !


After work adventures included trying to change a faulty neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission. In the dark, with a flashlight on my back in the driveway without the truck jacked up. There was no way this was coming off I ended destroying the switch. The collar is still on the shaft of the transmission but a dermal will help me out as a last resort

 

Fun times.

 

Installed the $80 worth of frame plugs from Toyota with some grease on them, I have a few left over if anyone knows where they go. Installed splach guards to keep the crap out of the engine bay

 

I installed 36 with grease around them into my new frame. That’s $2.22 a plug was it worth it probably not please see above for left overs to help me find their home

 

Remember how my tailgate was toast, i picked up a white one that is rust free but had some damage and would need to be painted.

So to be honest this was a RUSH job and i am not that happy with it. If i took my time and cleaned the paint off the tailgate and grindered it flat the end result would be much better. I did bang out the dents from the inside but i feal like i am capable of doing a much better job i may revisit this later

This truck has 380 000km on it with previous service history unknown, so i wanted to change the filter. I bought 4 1L of ws drained the fluid a Total of just under 4L was drained out. I broke off 3 pan bolts FFS when i took the filter off another 1-2 L spilled out on the floor. I then realized i did not have enough WS to refill the transmission.

So adventures in u pick

Local u pick yard got a 2002 Tacoma in 2wd 4cyl

Went to give a hand to remove a box off of it.

 

I know this is 1st Gen stuff

Looked in the cab and found a new never on front bumper with some serface rust, picked it up for 25$

Any ideas on how to clean the rust off but keep it chrome ?

 

No clue. I've heard plenty of wives tales about Coca Cola.

 

So i traded a few parts to a guy in our local toyota group for a NEW take off tailgate. It came from a toyota tacoma that his company turned into a sales truck for their line of tools and got a service cap with slide out tray. Truck was traded in with service cap and tailgate was forgot about in storage untill it was offered to me. This is NEW complete tailgate with backup camera.


Bad news

It is 2 new and shiny for my truck and worth more then what i paid for this truck .........
