As you can tell by the title I need to replace my rear leaf springs. I added something to my rear leaf springs that is called Super Springs. They add about a 1" lift (if that) and increase the towing capacity. That is what I was told. However...it is almost clear to me, my mom, and my camping buddies that my leaf springs are completely shot and as a safety thing, towing anything, and general day to day use, I need to get them replaced. What company gives me the best leaf spring for the price, if that makes sense. I am a college student (starting my senior year for my physics degree) so the best bang for my buck is what I am looking for.

I have considered going to a junk yard to see if I can find a decent pair of leaf springs. Is that something I should ignore and get new ones or what?

I'd stay away from the junk yard. Check and see if your truck has had the tsb rear leaf springs replacement. That's a free alternative but still will leave you with brand new prone to sagging stock leafs. Next up in price would be to add a leaf, but as you already saw, they can fail over time. Third I'd say get some air bags for the rear, however these may worsen your daily ride quality. Next up would be Dakars. People rave about these and the price is right. There are other companies that make leaf springs for our tacos (i.e. AllPro off-road -currently having a sale, Deavers, and Alcan) but these are a little pricier. Good luck with your search.

I am not aware of a recall I am eligible for. I found a thread on hear about calling Toyota about a recall, and they said that there was nothing Toyota could do about that. At the most the dealership that I bought my truck from would have to give me a letter.

My passenger side rear leaf spring is completely bent the other way.

I have considered air bags but I can't afford them at this moment.

Just drive it to the dealer and ask them about the rear leaf springs recall. I got mine last fall. there are threads with outdated info.

Check the lead springs themselves. Here's a picture of oem vs tsb IMG_1910.jpg

There are 3 clips on both sides. That seems like the biggest help yet

You might Google “Safety Recall E02 - Tacomas” before putting out a lot of hard earned cash. That safety recall may provide you some relief.

Safety Recall E02 – Remedy Notice Certain 2005-2011 Model Year Tacoma Pre-Runner and 4x4 Vehicles Rear Leaf Spring

“Condition: The subject vehicles’ rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves. There is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. If this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. If the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire.

“Remedy: Toyota dealers are requested to inspect the leaf spring configuration and replace the leaf springs as necessary….”
