With all the talk on here about having the right sized box to fit your sub, ported, or sealed, more cubic feet, less cubic feet, shallow mount, deep mount......etc. etc... I'm lost!

This is what I have....I have a Tacotunes 10" Single sub box that provides 0.55 cubic feet of air space and 5.5 inches of mounting depth. Problem is I'm having a hard time finding a sub that works with that box without breaking the bank so to speak. I will have a 5 channel amp that will push 250 watts rms at 4ohm or 350 at 2ohm to hook up to something. My question is can I make a mount similar to this....just the circle part disregard the rest of the picture

to attach to my existing box and install an 8" woofer in it? Simple answer I know is yes, but can I get better sound quality with the 8" sub that only needs that amount of air space and has plenty of mounting depth versus a 10" sub that doesn't have enough air space based on the box I'm putting it in. Hope you understand what i'm asking.
    Thanks!

As long as its done right yes you can do this.

My question to you is why not take the dimensions of the tacotunes box and build your own with just an 8inch cut out?

Because I already spent the money on the Tacotunes box and I don't want to spend anymore money than I have to. Add to that I'm handy at some things but I don't know how well I would do at sealing a box. The thought has crossed my mind though.

What about sound quality? Do you think it would be better with the 8 vs the 10 with the restrictions of the box i'm dealing with? I'm not trying to let the neighbors hear it but I do want to feel it in the cab.

As long as the box is built correctly and the air space is what the sub needs and the power is clean, SQ won't be affected if you adapt your current box or build a new one.

OP, where is the picture you posted from? Looking to build something like that for my truck. I would love to have a few more to help my design.
