So I got a 13 touch screen none etunes head unit out of 13 tacoma. I assumed it would work in my 05 plugged it up and it's a nogo. I know some guys have put them in 09+ plus taco's but I was wondering if I could get it to work in my 05 or if I should just cut my loses and sell it on eBay or in the for sale section. Any advise would be awesome. image.jpg

Pardon my curiosity..... What are you getting in the touch screen unit VS the OEM standard radio/CD player unit?

You wouldn't be getting navigation or bluetooth or any of that.....?? I can't imagine the ECU is setup for that??

mines an Entune plus audio non-Nav.

    Bluetooth calling.
    Play music via Bluetooth.
I've also installed the tundra USB/Aux port, minus the Aux part since I use the Bluetooth to play music from my iPhone.

Only downside is I can't access the Entune part because I don't have a 2013-plus Taco that I can create an account with.

I got a great deal on the HU, 200$ shipped from a member here. I really like it a lot, no complains here.

Can't really be sure how the ECU is effected by it.

Theoretically, it adds bluetooth and music/aux functionality.

It wouldn't affect the ECU. What I meant by that was.....other features (say for instance, Navigation) may need computer software and/or ECU /computer manipulation for it to function. Assuming - all that software wouldn't be 'inside' the unit and/or need 'connection' to other parts of the truck (which it may not be equipped with). Did that make sense?

If it had Navigation and would work in an 07 and I could find one cheap, I'd seriously consider it.

    Make sense.

I read somewhere that there's no way of upgrading the HU that I have to run Nav. There's different type of HU's. There's the basic Entune Audio, Entune Audio Plus, Entune Premium w/Nav and App Suite, and the Entune Premium JBL Audio w/Nav and App Suite.

Entune Premium w/Nav is probably the one you want. 450$ is what I saw for one go for on the BST section. Jerez has an 08 and this is the exact HU his running.

I think the HU itself is stand alone, just requiring a Nav antenna for it to work.

Thanks! That makes sense, although all the different type of units is enough to make your head spin. ;)

I should've done it years ago. Only 3 more years and I'll be thinking about buying another truck/vehicle.

But...if something came along for $200 or less, I'd rethink it. :)

For the USB adapter, this is the one that I got instead of going with a Toyota OEM adapter. Pretty cheap.

My iPhone 4 works flawlessly with it. In order for you to take advantage of the Bluetooth your gonna need the following. First pic shows where the mic plugs into. The 20 to 28 pin conversion cable plugs into the top right looking at he back of the HU like your first pic. Then all it pretty much takes is for you to sync your phone with the HU via BT.

I'm not sure if you got any favorite website to order parts from, but I got this 2 parts from MidAtlanticToyotaParts.com. They're price a little lower then some site.

^^thats also what I wanted to do, but from what I've read from other threads the mic has to plug into that 20 to 28 pin conversion cable for the HU to utilize the BT feature.

Ok worked it out I had to run a hot wire to the green and green yellow on the stock harness to make it power on. The Bluetooth works awesome with my iphone and I solved the gap issue by not screwing in the front mount bolts fits perfect now sounds great thanks for your help guys

    Wait, what.

I didn't need to do anything with the harness or any of the plugs.

did yours some how had an aftermarket radio that's why you had to do that.

you got it working but why'd you put it up for sale on the BST section?

    I'm lost here haha

I'm not sure it came with the stock head unit but for some reason the the hot wire was bad in the harness. I was going to sell it but changed my mind after messing with the wire a little more lol
