This is my first build thread! It all began 4 years ago in 2012 when I purchased a hand me down truck from my older brother at 16. Since then a lot of work and paychecks went into this truck. I was recently involved in an accident where a lady ran a red light and totaled my beloved tacoma. I most recently bought a new to me 2001 Double Cab and will be rebuilding my old tacoma and swapping parts/upgrading the new rig. Afterwards the Xtra Cab will be for sale.

Here are pictures of how far my old truck came before the accident...

Status update! The salvage certificate is here and my truck will be back home with me by this Friday. Bought a few new items for the double cab as well...

    - 24 inch led bar (going to be mounted on the custom roof rack i will be welding up this summer as a rear facing light source)
    - Cabela's Trailgear universal seat covers, floor mats, steering wheel cover
    - 1 inch body lift from 4crawler Offroad
    - Quick Fists clamps for future fire extinguisher, Mag-lite and a shovel/ax that are going to be mounted on a bed bar i will be making

Note: I do not own any of these pictures they are simply here as a reference!

Well the truck is finally in my garage! Mechanically it would only take new rear leafs, front driver spindle and CV to fix but there is a fair amount of glass and body damage. Enough that it wouldn't be worth it for me to fix.. more than likely a new cab would be necessary and a bed side. Also I haven't had time but the engine won't start and I'm 99% sure it just needs new plugs and to be turned over with plugs out to get rid of oil in the cylinders.

Truck will definitely need to be sold I'm just not sure if I'm going to part out or sell as is once I get the motor running. Might possibly throw on a new set of leafs and a spindle and CV. At that point it would be drive able but not road legal. Trying to figure out the best paying option to get rid of it in a reasonable time frame!

Sorry for your loss! Was a great looking truck! Digging the new one though! Love the red double cab with camper shell. Would love to find one like that for myself

Thank you! I love the look of the new one too its by far my favorite Tacoma model and generation. They are hard to find I picked this one up for a reasonable price but I am going to need to go crazy with some POR-15 to nip the rust in the bud! Luckily it will spend its winters down south for a while. The body is immaculate but the undercarriage has a fair amount of surface rust.

My favorite generation too that's why I swapped the front of my 00 to the 01-04. They really are hard to find with lower miles, without rust, and with a camper shell. Too bad about the rust, hope it isn't more than surface!

I made sure to look it over pretty well. Its not too bad yet but definetley needs treated within the next couple of years. Most of the rust free, low mileage double cabs I found were all prerunners! Considered doing a 4wd swap with the parts off my extra cab but I don't have the resources, knowledge or time for that!

Picture after I got the front end torn apart...

    IMG_20160304_130043014.jpg

    Where the impact occurred.

    IMG_20160304_132058796.jpg

Caused a buckle in the floor behind the passenger seat about three inches high.

    IMG_20160304_165110133.jpg

No frame damage though! Not even damage to the cab mounts surprisingly

Had some time to make a bed rack for the new truck...
I recommend Quick Fist clamps for your tool mounting needs. They are very convienient.
Still have to mount my fire extinguisher and mag lite but they work great with the shovel and ax!

Well I pulled the plugs, turned it over, put the plugs back in and little by little it turned over a little more. After repeating this a lot of times I am at the point where it runs but wont stay running unless I pump the gas pedal. It starts, revs, and when it goes back down to idle sputters out. I have little knowledge of vehicles in general let alone engines haha. Any idea why it wont stay running? Ill post a video in a bit.

Got it to stay running! It was the MAF sensor. I unplugged it and it ran so that needs cleaned out but... the truck sold first day it was on craigslist for $1850 after I strip the bumpers, winch, lightbar, etc.

Got all of the wiring and switches pulled from the lightbar, airhorn, and winch. Can't fit an angle grinder in to cut the front bumper off so I'm going to have to move the radiator out of the way which will be a PIA but worth it for the bumper! Also wanted to see how the double cab looked with my old 33s so i had to get a pic and it looks good:cool:
