I just started driving and I was lucky enough to get my dad's 01 Tacoma.
2wd nothing too special. But I am new to this truck and I was wondering if there are any simple performance mods that I could do. My dad likes to keep things stock and short of a K&N air filter he hasn't added anything to it. But maybe if there are some small things that he most likely wouldn't object to just to improve my gas mileage and performance.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

ok,cool. since you have the v6, you can do the deck plate mod to the airbox, and its dyno proven, so its a great mod, and way cheaper than a cold air intake. and you already have the k and n filter, so you'd be good to go there. after that, you can use synthetic motor oil and gear oils, and these are probably the best bang for your buck. here is a thread you may want to check out.....it has some good links to some performance mods in it!!

    hope this helps!!:)

I am reading about the deckplate install and I was wondering if you have close it during rainy conditions or if that amount of water wouldn't be harmful?

nah.....you dont have to close it at all really. water aint gonna get in there anyway. i know a few people that have the deckplate that offroad through alotta mud and all and they havent had any problems with it.

That's good. I have to show all this to my dad. The second I say possible increase in fuel economy his ears may open though.
Have you heard about HHO generators?

Yea. I love driving the truck. But with gas prices like they are I am really interested in seeing what kind of mileage I can get out of it.

    Hydrogen Hydrogen Oxygen.
I don't really know much about it, but it is basically making hydrogen from water using electrolysis. This hydrogen is injected in with the gasoline. So really your vehicle is running off of gasoline as well as hydrogen. People have seen as much as 50% increase in fuel economy running this way. It is really interesting.

yeah, i did it, and it took me probably about 45 minutes cause i had to buy a small hand saw to cut the hole in the box. not a time consuming mod at all though.

I did mine in about 30 mins without the correct tools. Make sure you get all the plastic dust off of the MAF. My check engine light came on for a day or so before I drove it on a long trip and it cleaned itself. Best 15 bucks you'll ever spend
