Well, traded my 2007 CC TRD 4x4 last month for a 2014 CC TRD 4x4. It was time for a new company vehicle-the 2007 had 324,000 miles on it.

The 2007 had no atrac, no traction control crap of any kind and it was a beast offroad. A little background-I'm a Forester in central Alabama, I drive a lot of miles and I drive through a lot of mud-soft mud, and I really never see rocks. The 2007 was awesome offroad, got stuck maybe twice in all those miles. But this 2014 is just terrible in the mud. The traction control just seems to be fighting me even if the trac off button is pressed.

I had it in some soft mud today, trac off, 4wd high and when I was on the gas spinning tires, it was making noises from underneath and I could feel it trying to keep me from spinning the tires. What's the deal here? Not being able to spin the tires in the mud isn't going to work. Am I going to have to put it in 4low -will that get rid of all the traction control crap?

Another thing, this truck seems really weak power wise compared to my 2007 and as far as options they are identical trucks. Has Toyota gone the Chevy route and put some kind of torque management BS on these things? If so, is there anyone with the ability to change the tuning to get rid of it?

So what are you guys doing in the mud-by that I mean what combination of buttons are you pushing on all this stupid electronic stuff?

Sorely disappointed in this 2014, I want my 2007 back!!!

I think you're missing the point, it has nothing to do with the tires. But the tires that are on it are the exact same BFG AT KO's that came off of my old truck-had the dealer swap the tires since these were nearly new when I traded the 2007 in.

Check out this thread. It has all the various ways you can push the buttons to get the traction you want. You may be surprised that some combos will give you not only what you had in your '07, but some that may work better.

Like the thread above noted it takes more than just a single tap to deactivate everything. Takes a 3-5 sec push and hold while stopped too. There is no programming that will disable it. However I've seen some people that wire timers and a relay to automatically do the 3-5 sec push. That then shuts off the traction control at start-up everytime then a single push turns it all back on if desired.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Press and hold the trac off button for about 5 seconds and that actually shuts it completely off. I have to do that all the time here in the winter because mine wont let me drive the way I want it to. Very annoying, I absolutely hate trac control, abs, and all these other idiot proof devices they keep putting in vehicles. But, once you do that and get better tires on it, it will be a beast. Putting better tires on mine worked mass wonders.

It's in the buttons dragr1, I'm still learning the best combinations.
I grew up in central Alabama, those red clay roads can be a pain when they get some rain on them.:)

Reading the thread linked above now, looks like I should have held the trac off button down for 3-5 seconds to get what I was looking for, I just quickly pressed it down instead. We're supposed to get 3-4 inches of rain Sunday and Monday, so I'll give it a try again next week!

Yep, being an old gearhead and used to the simple rigs with no electronics I just didn't understand this new stuff yet. Sure do wish you could buy it without all this stupid stuff on it, like my '07 was.

yup, all you gotta do is hold it down while sitting still till both lights light up and vsc and trac is turned off.

I hope that does it b/c some of the mud I get into from time to time requires full throttle on the rev limiter for 15-30 seconds and sometimes longer.

Do the "locker anytime" mod so that you can use your locker while in 4H.

Why are you using KOs if you are getting into the mud so often?

B/C I drive a lot of highway miles as well and I'm too old to listen to the mud tire howl. However I will be considering a set of mud tires next time around-probably later this year. When I ran Chevy's at work I always ran mud tires and still got stuck, but the Tacoma went great even with At's.

The linked thread is getting more confusing as I get into it farther. I think I'm just going to find a muddy plowed firelane and start pressing buttons again now that I know about holding down the traction control button for 3-5 seconds.

At a stop push and hold the VSC button for 3-5 seconds , the AUTO LSD and VSC OFF lights will illuminate , continue holding the button till the AUTO LSD light goes out leaving only the VSC OFF light on

The system will reset if you push the button again or turn off the truck

Got it, but on the 2014 there is no VSC button, it's just a button with a truck and squirrelly lines on it.
