Did this mod and put it on a switch if anyone is interested.

Would be a good solution for someone who runs different tires in the winter or if you're like me and you don't want to replace a dead TPMS now but will likely do it next time I get new tires.

    IMG_8026.jpg

One thing to note - You don't have to cut the blue wire. You just have to make the connection between red & blue. So I put a T connector on the blue and red and ran them to the switch. When I push the switch, it makes the connection.

    IMG_8028.jpg IMG_8030.jpg
    IMG_8031.jpg

The switch I use has 4 wires. It's made to light up at night with the dash lights.
Red Wire - Power in from TMPS red wire
Green Wire - Power back out to TMPS blue wire
Pushing the switch makes the connection between red and green.
Blue Wire - Power in from dash lights. I tapped into my tail light fuse so it would come on anytime the tail lights are on.
    Black - ground

The switch came from air_on_board_usa on eBay. The 'TPMS' lights up with dash lights, and the tire logo lights up when the switch is pressed.

    IMG_8069.jpg

I think of it as a TPMS 'bypass.' When the switch is on the bypass is 'on.' It's a bit counterintuitive because the switch 'on' does NOT mean the TPMS system is on.

Just had my oil changed at the dealership - yeah, back checked their work as much as visibly possible...... Quoted me a $119 charge to tell me which TPMS sensor has gone bad.

OK guys.....this bug finally bit my 09. I too will make the bypass mod after reading these posts.
After seeing the difficulty in getting the plug back into theTPM unit, has anyone tried to get to the plug from the low side like removing console cowling?
thanks also for all of the guidepost above.

went in after it and got it done on my 2009. 5v jumper installed on the blue wire at IJ1 connector. works great. :)
I also used input from an alternate thread ...
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/complete-tpms-disable-guide.161292/page-4

for those who have not tripped over this rock before, I did about 6 hrs research and poking around to decide what to do. Installing the jumper to resolve the TPM light condition literally fixed it in 15 minutes....very easy looking back at it.

thanks to the Vigo in the original post and all those of provided valuable input.

Just did this on my 2008, took MAYBE 20 minutes. Remove the bezel behind the radio for easier access. Had no issue getting the plug out/back in. I used a splice but drilled out the stopper so I didn’t have to cut the blue wire.

Just replace the sensors. It's $80 job every 10 years that takes 15 minutes. That's less than a McDonalds value meal once a year. Any respectable tire store will do it at no charge when installing new tires or charge about $10 each to install them otherwise.

Following VIGO’s wire description, this same procedure can be done at a harness located behind passengers kick panel. Just remove glovebox, kick panel, and bottom interior door rug trim. Harness plug was taped to a larger bundle of wires on right side of glove box opening. I let air out of tires to test. My Tacoma is A 2010. Once again thanks VIGO.

Same, it's unnerving to people who try driving my truck. I feel it adds "character" and "ambiance".
