I just did mine last night. Replaced TRD grill insert with SR grill insert.

Anyone who wants a Super White bezel with no grill insert, drop me a PM.

So once the two screws are out, and the two plastic push pins, the grill will come out?

I did the SR grille as well. It's not even the chrome that bothered me that much, it was all that lattice work in it. ...if it was a chrome SR style I mightve left it alone.

Did you have any trouble separating the body color surrounds from the TRD and SR grill inserts? I asked a dealer and they weren't sure about how they come apart. I see in the diagrams that they don't show the grill coming apart from the surround, only the Toyota emblem, trim, and the surround with the insert attached. Thanks in advance!

No trouble separating the body color bezel from the grille. Take it slow. A bit tedious, and took an hour to figure out and complete.

So can the chrome bezel be removed without removing main grill surround?

New to this forum and just got an off road '16. How do I remove the front grill I want to do an aftermarket grill insert. I didn't see any step-by-step/diagrams on this thread.

There's 2 bolts and 2 tabs on the top, open your hood and they are easily found. The bolts are on each side right in front of your radiator, the black plastic tabs are at the top edge of the grill by the headlights. Use a small screw driver to pop them up the pull them out. Once the 2 bolts and tabs are out, grab the grill and pull. It takes a little force but not much. It's really simple to do.

Does anybody know if the 2016 black grille surround will fit a 2017? I got a black billet grille but need to replace chrome surround with black. I can only find 2016 surrounds.

Thanks CH78. I thought it was. I just wanted reassurance.

    What a fun truck!

This video worked well for me. It shows a grill replacement, but he is very clear about how to remove the original grill. I actually just removed mine, plasti-dipped it, and reinstalled.

    Total time:
    5 minutes to remove
5 minutes for first coat of plastidip
    30 minute dry time
5 minute second coat (killed the can)
4 hours to dry (per manufacturers recommendation)
    5 minutes to reinstall

Did you tape off the black or just peel, that gives directions to pull out the whole chrome insert but that seems like a lot of work

I popped the chrome trim piece off. It's seriously not that much work. Just a few screws and clips that are easily popped off with a flathead screwdriver. Putting it back together is even easier as the clips just slide into place.
