This. I bought a $200 tiny little laptop that I'm convinced wouldn't even begin to cope with the horrid, ethically-bereft downloads I've put (and continue to put) my Mac through on a daily basis. The little laptop is used for two things, and only two things: OVTune stuff and as a paper weight for my Kleenexes when the ceiling fan is on and I'm using my Mac. Worth it.

Yep, that what I have. A simple small laptop running Windows 7. You could grab a used one for probably under $100 on Ebay. With Window 7 your less likely to have issues running the OVT stuff.

Finally trying to update my ecu from 04b12. Got connected but when trying to update, I get an s700-08 error "techstream unable to access network". Nothing wrong with my connection.
Anyone come across this? I'm at a loss.

I believe that means that TS is trying to get to the official Toyota Information System. You don't want that.

In reality, you don't even need to boot up TS, just get it installed so that the CUW files become executable. Check the 1st Post here:

    50 miles in... 87 2.0 tune coming from 1.05 87 FOB:

Haven't had much chance to hoon it too much, but initial tests show rev hang is gone. Not conclusively yet, as the circumstances that cause it can vary, but so far so good!

I've said this before and it's been true every time... But THIS is the most natural driving of the tunes so far. I'm able to drive it the smoothest and it seems devoid of quirks and has the best off -idle throttle control I've seen yet.

There's a definite reduction in off -idle torque from the FOB tune, no big deal being a beta test but worthy of note. Also, I noticed more pinging throughout a normal drive cycle than I have on past 87 tunes. I know the 91 tune fixes it but it seemed like the ignition tables we getting fix for 87 as well. Not sure if that's implemented here or not.

Summary here is that this is the best drivability tune yet, and 90% satisfies what I bought the tune for in the first place.

Have a 300 mile drive tomorrow, should have more feedback after that.

its sad that i sit here looking at all these posts but haven't ponied the money up for it myself. when i need a MT fix i just pull out the 87 and ride on. no quirks, no accumulator, no weird torque holes or janky acceleration, no rev hang, it just drives.

    soon, very soon

Yeah I believe it was the version of ts I had. Now it's telling me an update is mandatory. I'll try this. Much appreciated!

If you are getting the mandatory update message, close TS, disconnect from the internet, and open it again. It should give you a warning about 28 days until it stops working or some other nonsense. Click through and it should open normally. If you need to use it after 28 days again, just open TS while online, cancel the mandatory update message and disconnect from the internet again. It *should* reset the 28 day counter.

Also, I believe you do need to run TS at least once to set the interface to use the Tactrix adapter. I don't think the CUW has a way to select it, at least not in my version.

So I removed the version I had and installed the one tonered suggested. Still got the update prompt. Did what you said and was able to log on. Buuuut I'm still getting the unable to access the network message when trying to update my ecu:annoyed:

I have the tactrix selected already, so I don't think it's related

I mean at this point I've gotten it downloaded and everything with no issues and I'm not getting any prompts about security, I didn't think that was necessary. But heck idk

That's normal. You don't have a subscription so you can't get to their servers to download anything. You can't download the updates in Techstream without a subscription.

Did you download the TSB CUW files? You should only have to double click the file and it will open the update wizard. The files you need are posted here in the forum somewhere. If you don't have them, give me a few minutes to find them if someone doesn't post them before I find them.
