Basically Low Gear 2 Wheel Drive. Take a gander here.

Used to do this via manual locking hubs on my Gen-1. Makes backing and maneuvering a trailer a breeze.

ADM: accumulator delete mod. There's a number of ways to either bypass or replace the accumulator in the clutch assembly for the manuals. with it gone you actually get a real feel out of the clutch and more consistent gra b with the clutch when shifting. Makes driving the manual more natural.

2lo: The reverse gear in these manual trucks is way too high. For some reason Toyota decided that nobody ever needed to use reverse hence the weird ass gearing. The two-wheel drive low-range mod allows you to trick the four-wheel drive ECU into low range without actually engaging your front diff or axle. This allows you to have two-wheel drive while using your transfer case for a low-range doubler in effect, letting you back up with low gears like you should be able to. This is especially useful if you have to move a trailer or back up a hill. Doing all of that in four-wheel low is possible, but sharp steering angles in four-wheel low can put a lot of strain on your CV boots etc.

VFTuner: what this thread is all about. basically it modifies some of the throttle control maps and fuel control maps and your engine's ECU to allow more linear response. Effectively letting you use more power and torque lower on in the RPM range, it makes the truck more drivable and more fun. Also more functional. There are a few other fun things involved, but that's the gist of it.

aw man, I want it all.

I did the clutch restriction delete in my old MK7 GTI, and it feels great! I want to do the same with my Tacoma.

Just fired the 2.0 OL Reg tune on my truck yesterday, and put about 250 miles on it today. Boy oh boy does it feel better. That torque hole around 2500 rpm is gone. Cruising on the highways is easier with less downshifting. Though my right and left foot are a bit out of sync now - I’m not timed for smooth shifts anymore - I gotta relearn a bit myself

I wish I’d done this a week ago before lugging my camper up and down the mountains of WV - I bet it would have helped!

thanks to @OVTune for the great product and to @tonered and @lapoltba for their advice

Okay so, do I have to get PC laptop? What specs for the PC laptop do I need to make the OV Tune happen on my Tacoma?

@Shellshock sez Bootcamp works like a champ.

Otherwise, any low rent PC will do as long as you are not on the portable version of Windows.

I can vouch for the software (not that it means much). I'm pretty sure the files in his signature are the same ones I have in mine. The file gets flagged due to code obfuscation methods used when compiling it.
