Is anybody gonna come out with a supercharger kit for the 2016 Tacoma? Dying to add more power to mine

You have a 11.8:1 compression ratio. You're looking at running E85 if you want boost. You might be able to get it tuned more aggressively to make 300HP like the ones used in Lexuses, but expect to lose low end power and run premium gas. This is also assuming the tacoma exhaust/intake wont bottleneck.

Yea I check occasionally on magnusun pretty pissed TRD discontinued theirs. I wouldn't even mind a good turbo kit but so far there's nothin you can really do to get more power out of them is their anyway you can tune them I've heard it's an act of congress

You need one hell of a good tuner who can tune the vvt and ignition timing. A lot of room to blow up the engine. Or some how get the tune off a lexus and put it in your ecu or after market ecu. Sounds like you need the 4L motor lol

Not gonna happen. If more power is what you want or need then a 4.6L DC Tundra or something like a 2.7L F-150 is the answer.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Frank Smith at tuning tech who did his truck. They've tuned 5 different Toyota engines and no one has had any issues on the club Lexus forums. If anyone is interested hit him up. They will be getting a mainstream tuning platform for the 3.5 shortly. Also the Lexus 3.5 is tuned more aggressively from the factory, Toyota tuned this Tacoma motor to be as reliable as humanely possible.

So let's change the tuning and make it less reliable?

It's a trade off anyone who wants more power accepts... Like a supercharged 4.0.. A stock motor will always be more reliable. I would be way less worried about a tuned N/A motor than a boosted motor.

Not sure how performance would really improve the situation with the trans. Feel the trans is the biggest problem on this vehicle. Aside from my rear end coming up on its second replacement...but whatever back on topic

Trade yours for a manual. And who's to say your whiny rear diff wouldn't whine all the way to 500k before taking a shit.

The exponential increase in decibel level from 6k mI to 10k miles is enough to tell me otherwise. I don't want a manual vehicle I want an automatic that drives/performs normal like the majority of society

Hasn't only 1 actually failed and that was because it was crazy low on fluid? My second gen whined through 110k miles. You'd be surprised. Drive it til it breaks. I'd wager that it won't.

One failed already the second is now starting to howl. It isn't a whine it's a howling noise under no load. The carrier bearings show premature wear. Why would I live with a problem on a brand new truck that will eventually run out of warranty? Not smart.

It didn't fail. It made noise. I just watched your video. It would bang and grind if it failed.

Go to post 2671, I think this is what your might be talking about.

Also, are the ECUs still locked on Toyotas? If so I 'd imagine its a piggyback controller for tune.

If it wasn't a direct-injected engine I would agree with you, but direct injection significantly allows much higher compression ratios without knocking. The 2GR-FSE also has 11.8:1 compression and D4-S and people have had decent success with supercharging it even without retuning the stock ECU. Now that retuning is possible on the 2GR-FSE it will likely get even better, so I wouldn't say it's impossible to get a supercharger working well on the Tacoma on lower octane fuel.

There are quite a few that can be tuned as of late last year. I don't know if anyone has attempted the 2016 Tacoma's ECU yet though.

The video showed the noise. The dealer took it apart and wrote the report that it had premature wear/failure. You simply don't have the facts.
