saw in a thread that when the temp gauge gets to the first notch (10 O'clock) that is in the temp range for checking the tranny. why not at that point just open the over flow and if no fluid comes out then add fluid until it starts coming out the over flow then button it up....done.

I don't know :) If it's that ez, I do it in a second. I end up trading trucks in so quickly I never
get a chance to do much more than change the oil, hell some never even saw a new inspection
sticker! Can you just put it in that same over-flow hole on the side?

I knew the thread existed (obviously as how would I know about the issue to begin with)

I'm not however going to sit and search the forums all day to find a specific thread and then post MY individual issue which is different than the original threads your talking about.

In summary. If you have nothing productive to add I'm really not sure why you're here.

Good for you. My thread is still in place and you keep bumping it. In the mean time three users have posted something productive and relevant to my original post. I thank them all.

BigWoods does have a good point guys
The search feature has always been a little troublesome as it works on the latest posts rather than an actual topic .
Google searching at Tacoma World works much much better , but new members to the forum dont know this .
For the benefit of the doubt , try searching for a post you read a while back
This is why I changed all my posts using the word Transmission at the beginning .
I will change the low fluid poll header to make it easier to find when searching but I doubt it will help much unless you guys use google .
If you click on my user name , threads I have created , you can see the transmission threads I started . There are many
You can find answers to your questions here
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

This is what it will look like now
Transmission 2016 TRUCKS WITH THE 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC COULD BE LOW ON FLUID DIRECTLY FROM FACTORY

I've been trying to get help. You post something here and half of the people chime and say it's a repost....well no s***. It's a forum. 99% of what people are talking about has been posted before.

I'n summary I've been trying to figure out the cheapest way to get my trans fluid topped off.

I agree with bigwoods, what's a big deal that it's been reposted? Not like you have to pay to post or for the memory that's used to keep this pages. Let them post and stop filling replies with arguments! If you know the solution or the link just do that. No one is perfect and if you have nothing nice to say or help in any way.... Well then just move on!

Your answers are on the first page of the poll .
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/
You are experiencing the symptoms of a low fluid condition
The dealer was responsible for checking the fluid when they sold you the truck
If they didn't check it , its on them to fill it . You guys need to kick this low fluid problem in the @ss . Call corporate before you take your truck to the dealer .
Get on the phone now and call Toyota corporate and report your issue . I suggest requesting additional warranty on your transmission . Document everything .
    Phone: 800-331-4331
    Fax: 310-468-7814
    Mon - Fri: 5:00 am - 6:00 pm PT
    Sat: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm PT
Then ,get on the phone to your dealership and make the appointment to have your fluid level checked. Calling corporate first should eliminate the run-around most members get when bringing this low fluid issue up as a problem to your dealers . It will save you from going to the dealer up to 3 times .
If you call corporate first , the dealer gets paid to check the fluid .

WRONG - it's 5K and my dash triangle came on at 4K as did my entune reminder for service AND when I went in for the oil change they called it "5K service" on my receipt and they told me that on the phone when I called the dealer!

I guess you can wait until 10K and when/if something goes wrong down the road for you, your stealership can blame you for not servicing your truck at the recommended interval. Just sayin...

Factory 3.5 v6 Tacoma schedule is every 10,000 miles oil change with 0w20 synthetic.

And you may want to see someone before you blow a heart valve on your next reply.

Called dealer today and spoke with a different service manager. He assured me he would top it off. Then I called corporate and notified them of my suspicions and they opened a report. Dropping it off on Monday and Ill post updates if the trans problem corrects itself afterwards.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Who would I request the additional warranty from? Corporate or the dealer? From my pocket or theirs? Powertrain is under 5 year/60k I believe. What would you suggest?

    Good question .
Going to base my opinion on what we know and what we dont know so everyone that reads this is on the same page . Nobody knows how much damage has been done
All you guys had different mileage before you topped off your transmission fluid
Ask for an extra 30 k and push for it . That is fair in my opinion
Its not your fault you were driving around with a low fluid condition
You as the owner , the dealer and Corporate cant determine the amount of damage that was done while the transmission was low
Had Toyota fixed the problem a couple years ago , we wouldn't be having this conversation now .
We do know that low fluid causes some nasty damage within the transmission .
Many 2nd gen owners had to have their transmissions rebuilt and payed out of their own pocket
    Push corporate for 30k

If enough of you guys call corporate and scream extended warranty , they have no choice but to offer you guys something .
I haven't priced out a 6 speed yet but here is what it will cost you for a 5 speed auto from Toyota
Priced out a new trans at Toyota using a 2010 as an example . They wack us $1000 for the core charge

DescriptionMSRP PriceYour PriceCore PriceQtyTotal Cost Mechanical Catalog - 2010 - Toyota - Tacoma
    automatic transmission, transmission Tacoma 4.0L 4WD $2,914.03 $2,640.11 $1,000.00 $3,640.11[IMG]Sub Total:$3,640.11Estimated Shipping:$0.00Total:$3,640.11

Labor time guide shows 27.6 hours to remove, completely disassemble, clean, rebuild, and reinstall your transmission. That is just the labor.
You are well over $6000 by the time you add labor , fluids and your lost time .
I see a law suit coming
