I need a roof rack for my surf rods. Would rather not break them down when transporting them. From what I have been seeing on this forum the factory rack doesn't work on the 2020 because of the shark fin antenna. Anybody know if Toyota came up with a fix? Don't want to spend $1000 plus for some of the racks I have been seeing. Also saw on eBay several racks that look exactly like the factory rack for less $. Fitment claims they work on the 2020. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

I’ve got a 19 Pro with factory racks. I’m 99.9999% sure Toyota didn’t change anything with the roofs of our trucks. Under the rubber cover there are threaded mounting points for the OEM rack. I love mine. They fold into each other when not in use to diminish wind noise and can be found for much less than $1k. Maybe $250 used?

It is my understanding that the shark fin was moved forward slightly on the 2020’s to reduce chance of leakage from the brake light. As a result the old factory roof rack has fitment issues. There is thread on here about that. Keep digging.

Can confirm. Dealer installed my roof rack but didn’t extend arms so they never discovered the problem. Took it back the next day after trying to use them and a 2019 pulled up next to me in the service bay. Installer and myself discovered the change in antenna placement. He said he’s installed so many and there’s no way to mess it up that they don’t even bother extending the arms anymore.

Last I heard the rack was to get redesigned, first I’ve heard of the antenna redesign but seems more reasonable.

I said screw it and just ordered an UpTOP Bravo rack and selling my OEM to somebody with a 2019. Excited for my new rack.

Can confirm; 2020 shark fin has been moved; back half of the rack is potentially useless. There are two sockets for it to seat into: the back one being where the cross-bar originates from; the front one being where the cross-bar should seat. It does seat, but still rests on the fin. My dealer’s looking into a resolution; will keep you guys posted.

Is there a substitute stubby antenna for the shark fin? I thought I read somewhere here that it is mostly hollow.

I think @MESO was working on a lower profile one. Not sure how far along or if completed.

...so my dealer seems like they’re gonna take back the OEM rack, and pay for an equivalently priced one as a replacement. $500CAD, give or take. Any suggestions?

i pulled the trigger on the bravo rack from UpTopOverland. There’s a thread here and it’s got nothing but great reviews on the rack and you can see for yourself the customer service these guys have. Now I’m just waiting for it to arrive now. It’s currently On sale for $599 USD, so if you’re open to putting up the difference?
