Most every vehicle has plastic. To me it's a non issue as long as it is done right. Colors like silver and tan tend to look dated more easily, in my opinion. Colors like black don't. I love the interior of my 2017 Tacoma. Oddly enough I like it because it somewhat reminds me of the interior of the late 60's and 70's Ford F series vehicles in the dash area.

Plus, plastic makes me feel better. Too much shine and you start to see scratches and scuffs, dust, and fingerprints. Too much leather and you worry about scratches. Textured plastic looks better for longer since it hides stuff better. My opinion of course. I do like the look of leather seats but don't mind cloth either.

I'm okay with plastic. My Ram is full of it. But it's nicely textured, and the colour contrast is well done in my opinion. I have cloth, and prefer it living in a climate that varies from hot and humid, to dry and frigid. Might go leather on the next one though. Getting tired of trying to remove dog hair that's become woven into the seat fabric.

All the automakers have to balance weight reduction with adding new features and meeting elevated crash/payload/towing limits. When Ford changed the F-150 body to all aluminum in 2015, the truck's weight still went up over the 2014 model. Panoramic sunroof is an expected party trick in the fullsize segment for the luxury trims Denali/King Ranch/Platinum/1794/blahblah nowadays.
It's probably easier for engineering and manufacturing to switch over just the replaceable, non-load-bearing panels to aluminum. Also easier to repair.

I wish Toyota made the Tacoma hood aluminum, but they didn't... so I got a fiberglass one.

Not sure where you heard this. The Aluminum F150's are about 500 lbs lighter than the prior ones depending on the specs. Example:

The 2014 F150 XLT Crew Cab 4x4 with the 5.0L V8 had a base curb weight of 5,586 lbs.

The 2015 (first year for aluminum) F150 XLT Crew Cab 4x4 with the 5.0L V8 had a base curb weight of 4,705 lbs.

I may be trading the Taco in for a '22 Pro. I just hope they offer it in a crew max 6.5' bed.

Those #'s are realistic, but inguess im a bit disappointed. They have had 16 yrs, and the other manufacturers have come out with several versions of their engines in that time span, so I was hoping for more.

The Hybrid will be better, but will only come with higher end trim levels. I have no need or desire for anything above the SR5.

I agree, which is why I'm not that disappointed, but it took them this many yrs to just be equal with the competition.

New vehicle combustion engines are being banned in 2030-2035 depending on jurisdiction; that is one generation away for Toyota. EVs will typically see a full architecture redesign with battery packs integrated into the load-bearing structure (aka Tesla "skateboard"), so who knows what the trucks will look like underneath?

Depending on battery pack architecture by that time usually batteries are put low to the ground as possible. Rivian does this now. As battery weight decreases, and is, they can be placed in different parts of the trucks typically unused.

Yep. The current "mid size" trucks are the same size as full size trucks in the early/mid 1990s. Today's full size trucks are just plain frickin' huge!

Toyota had produced far more hideous-looking vehicles in the past:

Look for them to put hybrid in sr5 by 2023 or 2024. I am going wait until mid 2023 to order mine. Got to see what results these hybrids get

But bed on that generation Tundra can take a 4ft wide sheet of plywood between the wheel wells. Taco can't. At least 2nd gen could not... I am still waiting on my 3rd Gen.

That’s right, but the Tacoma can on top of the wheel wells.
