I was very easy on the throttle with our 2016 SR5 5.7L and could get around 12MPG with cruise control off towing a 4900 pound 7' wide fiberglass trailer. Hope to get at least 17MPG or better towing with the 2022 Tundra, will see. We get in the slow lane with trucks going up & down mountains to keep component temps low. Normally tow about 250 miles per day, while camping across the nation.

Apparently the suits at Toyota have determined that the optimal marketing strategy is an extended tease. Surprised at the dearth of information released to date. They still don't even have a pdf on the website. Even the media has pretty much been kept in the dark. Been able to glean some info from Monroney stickers (likely spot on) & a couple of auto websites (questionable).

I'm probably in the minority here but I think it's a sharp looking truck & even that grille has grown on me. However, looks aren't my main concern. 1800+ lb. payload & 19 combined mpg might overcome my hesitance to buy a first year refresh. Not going to get in any bidding wars at the dealer though. I'm very happy with my current ride.

The front is a little blocky for me but everything else is a home run to me. This is the best Tundra Toyota ever built IMHO.

Visually I prefer the current truck, and would be happy if they stuck the driveline in it and got the new #'s. But I dont dislike the new looking truck.

But I'm getting pissed at Toyota. They claim late 21' release. Well December is 2 days away and still have not officially released a price or have any info on their website? If its a 18 months wait as I'm reading on the web, then Id be out. I would want a basic setup, and with that kind of demand I'd see them making the pricier versions more so they could get more $.

Looks like they've changed that date to 1Q 2022. But if you browse through Northeast dealer websites you'll see that some have them "in transit". Some dealers have viewable Monroney stickers as well. In this insane market I can see bidding wars brewing. 2023 may be better but who knows.

Doug's review shows an interesting design detail - there looks to be an extruded aluminum rail between the composite bed and the frame, distributing the load. It should alleviate the wear and subsequent shifting/rattle observed at the Tacoma's bed bolt areas:

There's also an electric fuel door popper now, right above the heated steering wheel switch.

For all y'all complaining about fuel door hinge bending, the latest TFL video shows Toyota changed the hinge to plastic and molded a cap holder into it:

The electric fuel door button in the TRD Pro in Doug's video is missing here. Wonder if it's only there in the higher trim levels?

My wife and I are shopping for 4Runners at the moment and we saw a limited tundra in the dealership and I must say this was an extremely appealing truck. For an extra 6-8 grand we are now seriously considering the tundra.
Anyone know how well these are gonna score in terms of holding their value compared to Tacomas and 4Runners?

Pretty similar, list change but in 2018 from what I was reading when buying my Tacoma it was Tacoma, tundra, 4 runner in holding value. That said I’m not sure with a new gen although that doesn’t seem to have affected the Tacoma much

You'll be safe for sure - I mean...it is a Toyota truck. As well, as stated above - the 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundras all hold value extremely well just cart blanche. The 4Runner and Taco are "always" in the top 5 CR list, and the Tundra has been in the top 10 iirc almost every year. I think there was an issue back in 2012, but since then they've been solid. As well - when compared to domestic, they're still leagues ahead with reliability and value retainage. You'd be safe with any of the 3 (or if you really wanna be "safe", go for a Land Cruiser, but that's many more grands)

My dad spent the last few months disappointed at the new tundra design... Called me up yesterday from the dealer to tell me how good it looks in person. Now I need to see one

I saw the new Tundra in person this week.
Dealer had one, already sold. It looked good.

I agree - I saw one in person and thought it looked a WHOLE lot better in person. I really like the new red as well (been a lifelong fan of the barcelona red, until I got my new tundra in blazing blue pearl...my allegiance might have changed )

These tundra's look like a big rectangle shoebox.
