Saw a red one yesterday and really liked the truck & color.

Dealer told me our SR5 ETA moved from 1/3 to 1/100. will see how it goes.

Saw a TRD Pro in person at my local dealership. I thought maybe it would be a truck I'd like better in person but that was not the case.

My unsolicited opinion is that this truck is a step forward in several ways, but backwards in others - and these steps backwards are often head-scratchers. I realize that when they sat down to design this, a lot was sacrificed at the alter of higher MPGs and reliability. Take for example, the longer, gaping front end. Have to have room to accommodate additional cooling elements like intercoolers and adequately supply air to them. What came at this expense? Smaller cabin space for both cabin sizes. Not as big of a deal on the Crewmax. The Crewmax, proportionally, actually looks better now and still has an "ok" amount of room. The major disappointment is the Double Cab. The DoubleCab lost that 1.5" of legroom that really made it a great option in the previous gen. They did fix the roofline shape and odd clamshell door handle, however. Steps forward, steps backward.

Another major gripe is when you have such a prominent/distinct nose, why on earth would you ring it in chrome? There should be none, zero trims that have anything but color-match around the grill, so that it looks smaller to the eye. Huge failure from the design team, there. Another somewhat smaller gripe is that you basically have to buy a bed step as an accessory, since you can no longer step on the bumper while the gate is down, like the Tacoma. Maybe not as big of a deal to me and those still agile enough to crawl up into the bed, but for the boomers this will be an annoyance, I imagine.

The interior is lush. Super nice. Lots of new standard features and good design deliver on the promise of an updated Interior. I haven't sat in one of these yet but just from video/picture review, it's a massive improvement. The 8 inch screen is plenty for me but many will love the laptop screen available in the higher-end packages or trims. Step backward - manual seat controls in a 50k truck. I get that chips are at a premium these days, but they should have included motorized seats in the SR5. It’s frustrating you’re forced to get Softex to get motorized seat controls.
I hope this is changed once chips become easier to get in future revisions.

The wheels are a meh. I do like the Limited stock wheels. the SR5 off-road wheels continue to be ugly and will be readily available from take-off’s.

I'll update this once I've driven one but for now I'm not 100% sold.

hopefully that's 1/10 - unless you meant "not in the foreseeable future" ;)

Forward: multiple bed sizes for each cab size - this for a long time kept me from getting a Tundra cause I always had the 6'+ option from domestic (although I can't say much now cause there's a 5.5' bed sitting in my driveway as of the other day ). Mainly thinking a 6'+ with the CrewMax. I will say though, they could have brought the CM in a bit and make a better fitting 6'+ in the 2.5gen.

As for the grill surround - that's not any different from the previous gen:

    upload_2021-12-31_21-14-9.jpg

So I mean it's par for the course, but I agree that in general you shouldn't outline the huge grill in chrome - so agree that it looks not so great, but nothing really different from last gen

    upload_2021-12-31_21-18-1.jpg (much better)

Lastly - really am glad to see the interior get the attention that it needed. Granted - I've driven many a much Toyotas, so used to "Toyota interiors" (I mean they're an industrial manufacturer first and foremost). But, it's also why I loved my Ram 2500 cause it was such a breath of relief to have such a well done interior.

Picked the SR5 up yesterday, already have sideboards and mudflaps on order. Going to add a bed cover, too. Bought this truck for a daily driver and towing our 4900 pound travel trailer all over the lower 48. You can see our 2003 Tacoma behind the Tundra in one shot, the Tacoma is driven daily and running strong!!!!!!

Nice truck! You end up going with Cloth or Softex seats? You get the 32 gallon tank?

It's a close to a basic SR5 with cloth seats and 32 gallon tank.

I see your avatar, we like to watch folks Kayaking at Wilson Creek NC.

    Thanks!

Cool. I'd be getting the same truck in green if the cloth seats had the mechanical controls. I'll probably end up ponying up for the premium package.

The basic SR5 is a great truck and the higher trim levels are even nicer. Driving home yesterday, the steering felt a little odd until I realized what was going on. Every time I came close to the RH white line it would lightly steer back to center and the same on the LH yellow center line with a little beep if I touched the center line. The ride was good with 22 to 23 MPG running 55 to 65 on the highway going easy on the throttle.

No, both of our Toyotas are 2WD. Have not needed 4WD where we drive. Stay away from snow or poor road conditions. Do a little Dual Sport riding off pavement with a motorcycle.

My mom has a 20' Honda Passport with similar features, but the wheel also vibrates like you are running over rumble strips.
Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
So what would be the max tow rate for a DC LB 4x4?

congrats!! I noticed as well that the new SR5s can come pretty well "loaded" (even the "base" ones).

I saw 2 SR5s in Army Green yesterday, the green looked better in person. 1 CrewMax and 1 Double cab, the DC is very small for people but could be useful for tools.

But they look stouter built when you look at the suspension than previous Toyota trucks

Double cab is still roomier then the 4 door tacoma.
I don't get much complaints driving friends in the Taco, so that's good enough for me.
