    Seriously though... do a 1" BL 33s on 17s and a 3" lift and you'll be golden.

    18s at max.

20s and you'll wreck the wheels off road and the ride will suck and the traction will suck and you'll get laughed off any real trails.

A body lift is not doing it right.

I dont like your attitude, people are telling you the right answers to your question and you refuse to listen to them, sounds like you already have you mind made up.

If you really want "extreme" capabilities, 3'' lift with 35s and lockers front and rear. Thats about as capable as it gets. Of course you got to have sliders, skids, bumpers, and other things

check out this guys... 6" db modified to 8" with 35's http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-builds/147761-white2010taco-super-white-build.html

Then there is the RCD 4-5" db that works well with 33's http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/98012-rcd-club-how-many.html

or you can do the RCD and install 6" icon coilovers and run 35's.. then you get 35 and a little added ground clearance (not sure if anyone has actually done this though)

or you can do a 3" lift and run 255/80/17 (33.3" x 10") and have no rubbing issues.. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/wheels-tires/155849-255-85-r16-owners-experience.html

if you want to run a 3" and 285/70/17 you are going to have to do some cutting

Why do you think that the diameter of the wheels has ANYTHING to do with the gears? A 33" inch tire is a 33" tire no matter the diameter of the wheel. And the diameter of the tire (not the wheel) is what will affect your final drive ratio.

The advice you are getting regarding the size of the wheel has to do with sidewall flex in an offroad situation. This may not matter much in the mud, but certainly will in the rocks, where one would want their tire to flex and conform to the contours of the obstacle. A 33" tire with a 20" wheel will have a substantially shorter sidewall than a 33" tire on a 16" wheel.

This is closer to what I was originally wanting to go with (except on 20's). Now that I've seen a pic of 20" wheels on the Taco, it's a little goofy looking with 35's. Since the 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern seems to be less common, the wheel selection is more limited. I can find more 17's than any other size with that pattern. So at the moment, this sounds like the right idea for what I want.

    Thanks

Yea, I know it'll be top heavy, so it'll take some getting use to. My 97 wasn't quite as high as my new one will be

Lt is not a lift. Lt is a full suspension swap
    so is a sas.

If you use a 3" body lift for "extreme" offroading you will end up with holes in your cab mounts.
If you want no rub at all go with 32s on 16s.

I know the LT is a full swap out. This is what I intend on going with.

Regarding the BL, I was going for 1" and then add 3" kit. I never intended to lift the body 3" .... as I said in a previous post, that would be just stupid.

    Everybody has their own opinion...

But I would highly recommend getting a 6" lift with 34's or 35's. You will not regret it. Either way, you are going to want to re-gear (since you want to off-road), so might as well get the truck that looks good too.

3" lifted tacos with 33's are a dime-a-dozen. Since I lifted my rig 6", I have received nothing but compliments from everybody, including every 3" taco I have come across.

Yes, I'm making a point here because seems like anybody who doesn't have a 6" kit just bags on them. I guaranty I have just as much, if not more, ground clearance than any 3" kit out there.

About off-road performance, 10% of that truck, 90% is Driver.

I called 15+ shops as I was deciding 3" or 6"... and every shop had one consistent thing to tell me about my decision: "Half my 3 inch customers come back wishing they had gone 6", but never has a 6" returned wishing they gone 3".
