Correct, temporary disconnect pin 17 to allow user interface with HU with all the options same as the truck in Park mode. Keep in mind that GPS location may temporary not update on your navigation map system and will take ~ 8 seconds to update truck's location upon pin 17 connect back.

I finally did the rear camera override with the front camera, with the help from this thread. With the add a circuit put into the fuse box, the lid can't be put back on. Any issues wit that? It seems like it's high enough up to avoid dirt and water, but just curious if folks were leaving uncovered, or using something else to protect it.

The fuse box mounts up side down so no need to worry about dirt/liquid. I had the lid off my old truck for over 10 years without any issue. If you worry about it, just mark and use dremel tool to cut off the area that add-a-circuit in place.

    Ok,so,
I've had my truck (2017 Taco, Extended cab, V6, 6' bed, Sport package) since the end of February. I'm no stranger to trucks (this will be my 4th), and I've driven some big vehicles. But this little thing has the most obnoxious hood to try and see over that I have ever encountered! I am never quite sure where the bumper is. OK, front camera is the obvious solution right?
I thought I was a smarty pants because I read almost every post that might be related to a 3rd gen Taco front camera mod. I watched a Utube video about how to remove the head unit (done by a pretty girl). How hard could it be? I collected all the parts I thought I would need, and pulled the head unit out of my less than 4month old truck. With schematic in hand from one page back in this thread (thanks Hoangde!), I started counting pins to make and break connections. Big surprise, not all of the pins and wires are in the connector! So, anybody know a part number (digikey preferably) for those pesky little crimp sockets that fit in the 28 pin connector?

There are several way to do front camera. You can do per page 1 which use 24 pin cable or do per page 4 which use 28 pin cable.
If you decide to do per page 4 then you can purchase 28 pin extension cable at this member. No need to crimp sockets ...etc.
IMHO, do Front Camera per page 1.
Page 4 use for Smartphone Mirroring or any video and audio input in the near future.

    Hoangde,
I do like the option on page 4 the best. The 28 pin connector is the way I'm going to go.
Thanks for the link to the cable. That looks like a good place to buy switches too! Unfortunately the wife has me on a tight budget. So as soon as I can figure out how to slip a few dollars under the radar I may just purchase these. Camera is already mounted and run through the firewall. now working on a 3D printed piece to go in the the coin pocket. This is where I will mount all the switches that I do wind up with.

I have purchased everything but the blue or green switch. I have a 2016 limited with only one spot available for a switch to the left of the steering wheel next to the rear bed light and electrical outlet, which switch would fit best?

There are 2 type of switches in Tacoma:

    1. Long Rectangular (Yellow color) , dimension: 1.54" x 0.83" (39 mm x 21 mm)

    2. Short Rectangular (Blue color), dimension: 1.28"x0.87"(32.5mm X 22 mm)

Based on these appearance and dimension, you can order at:

    1. Mictuning

    2. Amazon

    3. ebay

    4. AironBoard

    5. Ch4x4

    and many other places.

I performed the page 4 mod. The camera is working but when I drive it says that I cant view while in motion. Is there a way around this? Did I miss a connection?

Verify that Pin 15 and 25 pulled low as needed. (Pin 15 + to Pin 11 and Pin 12 + Pin 25).

thank you, thank you, thank you! i've been wanting a front camera for the last few months to help me park in my very shallow garage. i love the idea of being able to push a button and turn them on at any time. i suck at this kind of shit, so I'll probably have to hire it out.

I verified the connections with an ohmeter just now.

it gives me this message when I'm moving. however, I don't have to put it in park. if I'm moving slowly it displays the camera.

    is 12 the movement signal?

Pin 12 + 25 will give you the A/V option which you successfully.
Pin 15 is parking signal line, connect pin 15 to pin 11 which pull signal low ( as the truck is in park mode). Check this connection first....1 out of 10 HU required pin 15 connect end to end....
Pin 17 is speed signal line which use to signal HU , connect per schematic in page 4. Do this switch as needed.

Else, pm me with your number then I will call you. I am in San Diego, California.
