Just ordered some URD cam gears like an hour ago.. rip.

Did you go with 05-11 gaskets or 12-15?

Is that really necessary? Wouldn’t an 05-11 gasket work even better to block your hole in the head (lol)?

It says that because of the factory 12-15 ECU That will go into limp Mode if it doesn’t see the SAI working properly. Since you’re going to keep using your older ECU it will not care. The headers bolt happily onto either heads but I would use the 05-11 headers for a cleaner look and not having those SAI tubes on top will make the install a hair easier too. If you’re getting 12-15 headers, rather than getting block off plates I would cut and grind down the SAI tubes to the flange and fill the remaining holes with weld

Is there any issue with just covering the sai holes on the block with just the headers like this?

I know this was a long time ago but, from what I gather I should be able to purchase this 2012 engine.
Order a set of exhaust manifold gaskets for the 06 taco, order a set of these headers.
And that will solve my exhaust Port problems, switch over the passenger side valve cover gasket.
This is otherwise plug and Play?

Hopefully you guys are still around and into the taco scene not a very easy swap.

Not just the valve cover gasket, the whole valve cover. And you should already have 2005-11 headers from your old engine so just need the new gasket.

    Edit:
I forgot about the air injection holes on the heads on the 12-15 engines. Those absolutely need to be sealed or you’ll have a massive exhaust leak. Either tapped for plugs or use 12-15 headers & gaskets. Or 05-11 headers with a wide enough flange to cover the holes. If you use the 12-15 headers, the SAI tubes can be either blocked off or ground off and welded shut.

Yeah I'm pretty sure my original cats are probably mucked by now.
So probably better to run a header?
What a pain in the butt, it's such a nice truck to just let go but such a pain in the butt to fix

You will have to use headers or manifolds for a 2012-2015 Tacoma. The aftermarket ones shared above will work because the flange covers the extra ports in the head but the majority of them do not. I would use 2012+ gaskets, though, to seal around the extra ports in the heads. Btw, EPA has cracked down hard on vendors selling headers and it is very difficult to come by them these days.

Negative...You'll need to use 2012+ exhaust gaskets and 2012+ manifolds. See my last post with notes about aftermarket headers. As mentioned previously, you can either make and install a block-off plate for the manifolds or cut the tubes off and fill the holes on the manifolds with weld. I would just install block-off plates on the factory manifolds. I used a gasket as a template for making my block-off plates out of some 3/16" steel I had laying around. In regards to the valve covers, I'm running the valve covers from the 2012 engine I installed. I removed the SAIS parts and studs for them off the valve covers. You really can't tell any difference other than the holes for the studs.

Do you happen to have a picture of the plates you made?

Not on hand but it's literally roughly diamond shaped with bolt holes drilled for the bolts. I used the gasket as a template.
