    Hello everyone I know this has been posted before but if anyone could help with everything I need to do this or anyone that has done it before could you please help thank you. I have a 2006 double cab 2wd sport it's all stock

    I'm going to guide you through my SAS, my cost, and my frustration. I will probably convince you to SAS, because it is so utterly amazing. However, it is not easy, and it is NOT cheap.

    Most people should stay with IFS. SAS is intended for the extreme off roader. IFS can handle most courses of the SAS, just not as easy, or as well.

    Ok but you have way too many things here. Those items are "nice to have" and not necessary. Plus this is going to solid axle.

    If OP is converting 2wd pre-runner to 4wd IFS he will need much less. I doubt it would cost him more then $3000 to get 4wd and everything would be bolt on. so potentially with out the installment cost.

    If he goes to one of the "pull yourself" junkyards he can probably walk away with everything he needs in one day.

    Yeah, just open a dealership that sells 4x4's and save yourself money from having to pay a mechanic to do the conversions.

    Not mine, just the first post from that thread. I'm not even going to pretend to know what's involved with a SAS. But, if you're going to go through the hassle of adding 4wd to a 2wd truck, you might as well have a solid axle.

    Otherwise, I think you're much better off buying a truck that came with 4wd to begin with. I think you'd be hard pressed to find Toyota parts for $3,000. Not saying it can't be done but you'd have to be creative where you find your parts. Plus your truck will be laid up in the shop for a long time while the work takes place.

    Agree when doing Solid axle swap which would be more expensive and requires space/time to get it done.
    If OP just wants factory 4wd (which is enough for most) then he can buy parts and get them swapped in his own garage over the weekend with his buddy.
    I dont think $3000 is low for going from pre-runner to 4wd.
    Biggest ticket items are
    TC - less then $700
    Front Diff - Less then $500
    Cv's - less then $200
    4wd - computer - less then $600
    Hubs for 4wd - less then $200
    Pig tails for front diff and TC - maybe $200
    Miscellaneous - $600 (including six packs of beer )
    If OP goes to "pull yourself" junk yard he can probably score all above for %50 of price.
    Now when trading in vehicle there is usually loss of $3000 right there for dealer to be able to get truck for sale. Then difference in price of 4x4 vehicle.
    Not to mention all your mods on the truck lost, and you buying used vehicle that you are unsure off.

    I really want to see someone finally pull this off. Lots of people have talked about adding 4wd using bolt-on parts taken from another parts truck but has anyone pulled the trigger and moved forward with it? Labor would be the biggest variable. If you can do it yourself, your truck will end up being laid up for a decent amount of time or if you pay someone, it'll be expensive but probably a lot quicker.

    Thats exactly what I was saying. Some junkyards have sales like $500 for all you can carry out.
    I can carry TC, front diff, computer, wiring. If not I would hit a gym month before to do bench pressing and carry half of the truck on me. :)
