I am going with the ome shocks , yes. 9000 for the front and the n182 for the rear. I am not an expert at all on this but with a stock shock and the longer new spring there could be a top out issue.
Each spring has a length of compression and if the shock doesn't match then , i think, you could reach the end of shock travel before the end of spring travel. This you would definitly feel. There are many older threads that explain this better than i can but when it comes down to it for the bit of extra money the products that are made for each other will give the best performance and ride while lasting.
For this reason i waited longer and will commit for the complete kit.:)

Just ordered the parts from toytec, thanks Dylan and Lisa. OME kit with 884's ,9000 sport shocks , n182's ,5mm spacer , CB drop kit, tsb AAL. I have also picked up a used all pro skid plate, some more lugs for the summer rims and top mounts for the new strut assemblies.
I plan on keeping the factory struts unmolested for future posssible sale.
I will be keeping a list of as many measurments i can think of and pics of the before and after for reference to those who might be curious. I do not plan on changing from the stock diameter of tire but will be changing width's. ie stock 245/75/16 will be replaced by 265/70/16.
Will keep you posted. Thanks for the interest.
Kudo's to NFL for the feed back and Chris4x4 for the detailed info:cheers::woot:

I'm just about to do the same lift, but torn between 884 and 885's. I'm going to do the 1.5" aal, but I'm a bit concerned about the 884's sagging too much after awhile and getting way too much rake.

I could be totally wrong, but I don't think there is a weight difference between a 4X4 and a prerunner when it comes to weight "above" the shocks. Yes you have the drive and the axel weight, but that is all below the shock tower.. our engine bays are the same.. Tow package trucks will actually have more weight due to the different battery, alternator, and trans/oil cooler.

So I ask... If there is no weight difference and no after market bumper will be used, is there a height difference between 884s and 885s not between themselves, but being used on a Prerunner vs 4X4??

    885's are 10mm ( 3/8" ) longer in length than the 884's

OZ...OZ.. read the question.. If there is no weight difference and no after market bumper will be used, is there a height difference between 884s and 885s not between themselves, but being used on a Prerunner vs 4X4??

I know that 885's are longer (duh).. If the weight difference between a 4x4 and a prerunner is below the shock, then how is the height of 884s on a 4x4 and a prerunner different?

I understand 885's are more suitable for a doublecab 4x4, but if I were to use 884's, how much sag can I expect after a few months? I don't really want more than a 2.5" lift, but I don't want it sagging down below 2" either!

The weight is transferred to the top of the spring is it not ?

It shouldn't matter if the weight originates below or above the spring , because ultimately it is carried by the point ot transfer , which would be the top of the spring , no ?

I have a DC LB.. Granted I am not 4x4.... Read my above post and wait for someone to respond to that.. Dosen't make sense that 884/885 would give you a different lift on a pre-runner or 4x4 (of equal body type. i.e. DC) but I don't know.. For myself, I got 2.75 out of the box with my 884s.. have had them on about 3 weeks now.. Will be remeasuring to see if they have dropped a bit..

lol... but you gonna answer? Cause I wanna know!!!

I don't know... That makes sense to me for up and down rebound, but for a standing still vehicle, and height, that would be weight above the shock right??? I wanna understand.....

Well , your original question seems to assume there is no weight difference between a prerunner and a 4x4 , but there would be a weigt difference .

k.. so not saying I'm right, but I want to learn if I'm wrong..

I can see a weight difference in the drive shaft and the front axle. I agree that any weight is transferred to the top of the shock which is connected in essence to the frame.

So.. what additional weight attached to the frame, does a 4x4 have that a prerunner does not have? possibly only the drive shaft correct? A 4x4 does not have any bulkier frame than a prerunner has..

THIS JUST IN.. just went to the toyota site.. looked at the specs for a prerunner (LB/DC) and a 4x4 LB/DC.

    Curb weight (lb.) - (Pre)3975 (4x4)4190
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) (lb.) - (Pre)5350 (4x4) 5450

That additional weight is not taken up mainly by the front shocks but rather all 4 points..

So you telling me that there would be a significant difference between 884s on a pre vs. 4x4???

I don't think there would be a significant difference .

The front diff , etc is forward of the centre of the truck , therefore the majority of that weight would be borne by the front springs , rather than the rear leafs .
