90915-YZZD1 Vs 90915-YZZD3?

    What are the differences between the two? Can they both be used with Mobil 1 synthetic oil? Are the both ok to use on a 4cyl 2008 reg cab? I went to the dealership today, and a 90915-YZZD1 was given to me. Is this the proper one for my truck? These are oil filters by the way.

    Toyota says YZZD1 for the 2TR and the YZZD3 for the 1GR. The D3 filter is longer.

    I've read about people using the D3 on the 2.7 but I haven't tried it myself (yet).

    I use the longer filter on mine. It fits with no problem. I figure the longer filter has more filtering media, and, as I recall, there is no price difference. I wonder why Toyota bothers with the smaller one.

    Mine is a 2.7l. As I stated earlier, it works great with the longer filter.

    One suggestion, rely on the dipstick when refilling with oil (ie fill with 5 qts, run, check dipstick and fill the rest of the way to full on dipstick). I fill the YZZD1 up before installing to prevent clatter from the tappets and to get oil circulated faster, and it will hold almost 3/4 of a quart itself. The longer filter might hold a bit more.

    I use the YZZD3 on my truck which is the biggest OEM filter, but Ive read that the YZZD1 is shorter by only 3/8", the prices have been going up for a case of 10 yzzd3 s lately I might resort to using the yzzd1 in the future I can get them for less than $4 a piece online. either one is a great filter

    Dear Lord. This again.
    There are superior filters for less cost available on the shelf of your local parts store and Walmart. Brutal truth hurts. Toyota filters are 40 micron absolute. The most common harmful particulate range is 5-30 microns. So why do they use 40 micron filtration when filters can be made to filter as low as 20 microns and flow just as well as the 40 micron Toyota elements?

    Ummm....Toyota filters are designed for a 99% single pass efficiency at 2 microns between 10 psi and 70 psi.

    If you have a filter that isn't filtering down below 10 microns, its a coffee filter, and the person that put it on was a Barista.........or....evidently......2.7taco

    I would like to see that beta chart. As of current, both Donaldson and Baldwin state 4 micron is as low as they can measure. Fleetguard has gone as low as 3 micron.
    All those micron values are on fuel filtration and documents can be provided by those manufacturers.

    Toyota TRD filter is a Champion labs filter. Not certain who built the Toyota Thailand filters. The Japanese foam like element is unique and i have no data to say what it is capable of.

    Not sure where you are getting this info, but the OEM Toyota Filter mentioned in these threads, is made by Denso, also known as "Nippondenso". The filters made for Toyota vehicles, are engineered, and designed by Toyota. They must meet the criteria I posted. Kinda one of the reasons Toyota is known for their engine longevity. If they ran coffee filters, as you suggest by your comment, they wouldn't last much over 100k miles, if that. The media used is among the most consistent in terms of fiber construction, and uniformity. To add, a "small" Toyota filter still has double the media surface area than most all "High End" filters.

    And the "2 micron" rating has been around in these filters for over 15 years. Not new tech. However......Not coffee filter tech either.

    As far as your statement on coffee filters. It sounds as if you are not well versed in filtration. Fleetguard LF16035 used on B model Cummins engines is set at 30 microns absolute or 30um at 98.5% efficiency. The LF16035 is a full flow filter with no internal bypass. Engines using that filter have ran over 1 million miles. So where did the 100k miles cone from. Toyota is a business and such chooses how much to spend in R&D. The Japanese foam OEM filter is the only OEM filter used. Toyota Thailand filters are Toyota aftermarket made for them by a specific manufacturer. Same goes for Toyota FPIG it is a solvent based RTV made by one manufacturer. Nothing very special about Toyota Thailand filters other than the Toyota label on the outside.

    Again if you can provide documentation of the 2 micron rating I may reconsider my statement calling it a unicorn filter and would promote it. As far as my research in filtration I have contacted several manufacturers and they have given me the values they tested their filters in comparison to the Toyota filters used state side.

    And your engine is currently loosing oil, I presume from using a higher quality aftermarket filter? The information is avalible on the web. Look it up.
