Aftermarket stereo won't turn on

Just installed a new head unit and for some reason the unit is not coming on. I've replaced all fuses even though they weren't blown and checked all wiring. Needs some help. It's a 2010 Tacoma access cab if that helps.

 

Check the wiring harness. Did you install it yourself?

 

Yes wiring harness is good. Everything is wired correctly.

 

Also it worked before I installed a new sub. But I was already running a sub before. All I did was pull the unit out to get more slack for the remote wire put it back in and go to start my truck and no power to the unit.

 

IF the wiring is good + Fuses are not blown = Stereo is broken.


Get a new one.

You only need two wires to power up the stereo

If it was working before the sub install and it is not working after the sub install. Then I would say you screwed up the sub install. Answer is obvious.

a similar occurrence happened to me.
when i got the truck it came with a crappy sound storm lab head unit, it looked nice but worked crappy.
i took it out, but didnt remove any wiring or anything. i just wanted to see if there was a USB connection in the back (there wasnt) after reinstalling it the screen would stay black but the radio would still work.
sometimes if its not a name brand unit it aint worth the time.
eventually it just crapped out and i got a pioneer

 

It already had a sub that worked I just bought a newer one. Amp does not turn on. No power anywhere.

 

It's a boss head unit.

 

can you measure power on the input leads to the unit? If you don't have power going in, obviously it wont turn on.
If you have power going it and it doesn't turn on, hmmmmm. Most units will power up even if the speakers are not connected, and the more expensive ones will power up enough to tell you on the screen that you have no output devices before they shut themselves off.

It might be a security feature. If it looses power it wont power up unless you know the secret handshake. Check the manual on that or contact the manufacturer.

I had a player one time that serialized itself to a particular CD. If it lost power, when it came back up it would not do anything until you put that CD back in.

Make sure you didn't accidentally only partially connect one on the connectors on the rear of the deck. Also if there is an inline fuse on the power input did you verify that it didn't open.

 

Ypu may have pulled a wire loose while you were pulling on it too get more slack

 

Once you verify that power and ground are good there is no reason it wont power up unless it's broken. Check the fuse box under the hood. Mine was blown when I bought the truck.
