    Yup, you be crazy...

Too many inconsistencies with the story.
High risk of high $$ outlay post purchase (being a 2005).
Way too much initial $$ to purchase.

I’m thinking you like this truck mostly cause it’s a cool looking off-road looking truck. But with 250000 miles just walk away. No matter the great reputation Tacoma has everything fails with time and mileage. It may nickel and dime you to death. One week the starter will fail, the next the electric windows will stop working, then the alternator, then an electrical problem, then power steering, then maybe the tranny. You get the picture. Based on your name I assume you are a college student probably without a whole lot of $$$. This truck may break the bank. Just walk away.

The thing about high mileage vehicles is the unknown. I’m hoping to get 300k out of my 2011 before I retire it as a daily driver. But I bought it new, and I know exactly what the truck has been through.

An O2 sensor is an easy fix. Why wasn’t that done prior to sale to maximize return?

05/06 had head gasket and engine mount problems.

$10,000 is far more than I’d be willing to spend on that vehicle. Crazy!

I have a winch and never had to unfurl the cable in the past 5 years that it's been on the truck. I guess I don't do stupid things while I'm in the dirt.

It might not be a bad truck, but it doesn't seem like a very good deal at $10k either. I would be looking to negotiate the price down quite a bit so you have some funds ready for the inevitable repairs that a truck with that many miles is going to need. If they won't move on the price then I would walk away.

run, run as fast as you can... man you've fallen in love with a $10k Las Vegas stripper who's had a bunch of cosmetic work done by unknown unlicensed taco docs. You'll be lucky if her teeth don't fall out when you wake up in the morning with her in your bed, or in this case sitting out in your driveway. Lots and lots of utility options out there for you for $10k but then you probably never took any advice from your father either. I AM NOT YOUR FATHER

This. 05/06 also known to have oil leaks in the timing cover. And with all that name-brand off-road gear, I can't believe the truck has never gone off-roading. Maybe, owners have already addressed these issues; I'd want proof. When I've bought used cars, I give everything a good look over, but this would be one time I'd have a pro mechanic check things out, especially engine compression. I might also be inclined to take an ATF sample.

Shit. I have an 05 Tacoma 4.0 with 155,000 miles. I didn’t know they had head gasket and timing chain problems. How common was this problem?

I just purchased my 2nd gen last week (I had a 3rd gen before that) and I was amazed to see so many other Tacoma’s priced that high with a similar mileage.

Honestly though, maintenance records mean nothing. What stops the owner from making BS up?

If you're looking for a cheaper reliable truck for off road and camping, then get a 1st gen Tundra. They're cheap, you can pick up one around 100k for about 10k. Tacomas are over priced, you buy a truck with 100k, it still needs a bunch of maintenance done, at 250k you're looking at a lot of work.

Not worth it, buy a Tundra.

I don’t see why everyone complains about the head gasket on the 05-06. Spend the 3k to get it fixed, enjoy the truck another 200,000 miles. But people are quick to buy off road parts that can get into the thousands of dollars.
