Any 12v power in rear of truck?

I want to install a powered 4-pin trailer wiring harness in my 2020 2.7liter that did not come with the tow package from the factory.

I've already installed the hitch, and am looking into which 4-pin wiring harness I should install and where to get the power from.

It seems like they are all powered to a 12v source and the most common place is of course the battery inself. But that's a long way to run the wiring and considering trailer lights are very low load since LED lights are used now, I'm wondering if there is power availible somewhere in the rear of the truck.

Has anyone found a 12v source to power a harness besides the battery or fuse block?

Yes, thanks, eTrailer is where I got the hitch from, and will likely get the wiring harness from them as well.

I don't think so. I needed 12v constant for the light in my cap, the harness that came with the cap required it to be connected to the battery.

If you wire to the battery run your wire on the passenger side!

 

I would just install an aux fuse panel under the hood. Makes it easy to install future accessories without stacking wires on the battery

Then I'll need to cross the firewall I guess to get to the battery on the driver's side. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll get under there this weekend to get a closer look.

 

Standard practice is for the wire harness to plug into one of your tail lights. There is no need to run all the way back to the battery. unless I’m missing something it’s also how the trailer brake lights and blinkers get actuated properly.

 

Factory and Aftermarket trailer lights have there own separate fused power source. It's called a towing converter.

 

What did you ever end up doing? I am currently in the same situation. I notice Tekonsha’s harness for 2005-2015 doesn’t require 12v constant power from the battery. But the 4 pin for newer trucks does. I too am looking to add a 4 pin to my 2022 and would prefer to just plug and play only to my tail lights and call it a day.
