Buying a offroad with the elocker is great and all. Definitely saves you money. But my airlocker in my sport makes 2wd a blast. Lol

No, missed that one . Spent the day at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon.6A8BE475-9117-4DE5-AA17-A4B2B7F862EF.jpg
Hiked the trail to the bottom of the volcano to touch the lake. A must see! . Just ran out of time out west. We also spent 2 days in and out of Yellowstone (still not enough time). We sat and watched the Buffalo herd (1,000s of Buffalo) move.
    022C3264-5CDD-4CEA-BEAA-687CC3529636.jpg
I can spend a week in Yellowstone.

Still haven’t timed it right for the tour of Delta 1 launch center.
Minuteman Missile National Historic Site South Dakota.

It’s closed every time. You need to be there early because they only allow 6? On the tour to go down the elevator.

not a fan of the hood scoops. And if I did get one I’ll cut the hood to make it useful.. My buddy with a fj cruiser just got a aftermarket hood with vents and real hood scoop. Looks sick on his truck. If i wanted one I’ll probably go that route. Couple hundred for a hood versus way over a grand for a Air Locker.

Never felt limited by driving a sport. Put bigger tires on and better shocks which both sport and offroad could use, and go wherever I want. But took it surprising places completely stock too

The matte plastic on cars looks cheap to me. Growing up it was always the base vehicles got matte plastic and nice trims got paint(like the base front bumper on orkin edition tacos). Now I know matte plastic is "trendy" right now but it needs to go away along with chrome strips on the back of cars and "exhaust" tips that are purely cosmetic.

You mean the painted trim and the fake hood scoop aren’t purely cosmetic?

The scoop keeps the hood from vibrating and coming unglued like every non scooped hood suffers. The painted trim is actually functional. If you wheel you will get scratches and pinstripes. When you scratch a matte flare, you have to live with it or replace it. On paint, you simply buff it and if really needed touch up paint.

Two functional reasons sport is always the answer. Plus 6' bed and manual were requirements.

Do wish I had the inclinometer so I could snap some pics of the places a sport cant go

:notsure: I get the 6’ manual argument but the rest I don’t buy it. Manual was a big “need” for me when I was buying and I’ll admit the scoop looks good but the locker won me over. :burnrubber:

There must be over 100 threads on the hood(but none about a scooped hood, the bends actually add structural rigidity). And if you offroad, you've delt with scratches. Matte plastic cannot be repaired, painted flares can. A good cutting compound goes a looooong way on removing trails from paint, I accidentally ended up with a black truck, I know these things

D'oh! my bad for not looking. That sounds obnoxious.

I'm only here because I like to see how upset people get about this stuff. To be honest, truck is a truck and as long as you get your use out of it (or more) it was a good buy.

Yeah gotta have some fun, too many people think you cant offroad a sport because well it isnt an offroad. But I do tend to make the most of whatever I drive. I had my last car, a Mazda rx8, down more logging roads and fire roads to get to fishing spots or hiking than 90% of tacomas will ever see. Was sad they wouldnt let me run the 1/4 mile in my taco due to low speed rated tires. I said cmon it's a sport it was made for the track!

Wow, OP! Glad you're still here. Hearing stuff like this makes me all the more glad I went for a Tacoma.

I like my Sport. I got this truck not knowing a ton about Tacomas except I wanted a manual transmission and 4x4, I didn't think I'd be taking it off-road ever, and I liked the look.

Fast forward to two years of ownership and over 40k miles and here's what I got:
    - TRD Sport is still number one in the looks department
    - You need sunglasses in the truck at all times, or the glare is gonna be rough. Although, the way the hood curves back on the flat-hood models, it could be a universal issue

    - I said I didn't plan on off-roading it, well that changed
    - The Off-Road suspension is REMARKABLY softer than the Sport. I went beach driving with a buddy with an identical TRD Off-Road. His truck soaked up the bumps way better than mine. You feel it more in the Sport
    - Taking it on trails, the Sport factory suspension is just as capable as the Off-Road factory suspension. Washboards are rough though. I definitely took it slower because I was afraid of giving it a dash rattle.
    - Off-Road owners complain about their trucks nose-diving and being floaty around corners. This is where the TRD Sport shines.
    - I replaced the factory suspension with Bilstein 6112 and 5100/3-leaf AAL, which IMO made it perfect. It soaks up bumps off-road without compromising on-road handling.

    - I haven't messed with the Auto LSD in the Sport. As far as locking diffs go, by the time you need it, you've already out-performed the factory tires and suspension anyway.

Just a few thoughts. I love my Sport, no ragrets.

Really this thread should have stopped here weeks ago.

I had to have a Tacoma (ok yes a mental block there), did not in any way want an AT, but absolutely need the long bed w/o a crazy long dual cab. The rest, is just fluff, easy to add lockers ($$$), hood scoop I don't even think about, do like the black flares............but again, fluff............

I actually love the fact with the aftermarket lockers, can switch on as needed, stand alone not tied to the rest of the systems.

Getting off topic but can we talk about the 3rd brake light for a second? Why did they include a bed light in the double cab which mostly comes with a 5' bed and skip it for the demographic who clearly cares more about using the bed than the back seat... terrible toyota. But the red 3rd brake light looks better imo

    1. This.
    2. It looks good on Toyota's stuff, but I rage when I see it on subcompact crossovers. That trend needed to go away with the XC-edition Volvos and the ribbed-for-nobody's-pleasure Pontiacs.

Nobody said you can't take a sport off roading... but if you are worried about vibrations and scratches instead of actual usable things like a locker then why are you off roading? Most of your points are based on cosmetic things which is fine if you say "I love the look of a sport vs an offroad and I'm ok not having the locker and paying the same for cosmetic things". There is nothing wrong with that. Looks is a matter of preference. I'm ok saying I like the look of a scoop. (Anybody wants to trade a sport hood?)
