im looking to get into kayaking, i also dont have a lot of cash. im trying to find out if a 300 pound weight capacity kayak will work for me. i weigh 275. i have asked a few places that sell kayaks and cant get a straight answer, probaly because they are just worried about making a sale.
the weight capacity is my concern because a 300 pound capacity kayak is alot cheaper then say a 400 pound or higher. you can find 300 pound kayaks for $300 or cheaper, any higher capacity is around $500 or more.

i dont plan on carrying any heavy gear, and i wont be on the water by myself so if i need to i can put gear in one of my friends kayaks. also i wont be doing any crazy rapids just ponds/lakes and slow rivers.

Go for the 300# kayak. There is a built in safety margin for those yaks. Don't go crazy, but if you carry 40 pounds of gear with you that will be no problem. Especially if you are just on lazy rivers instead of whitewater.

Check out the Official Kayaking/Canoeing Thread in the Sports, Hobbies, and Interests section. Should be able to get a lot of good info there.
