Anyone running 295/70/17 or 305/70/17's ?

    Hey guys just curious if anyone is running 295-70-17's or 305/70/17's with a 3" lift and wheel spacers? I want a new lift and don't want to go to have my truck way off the ground. I thought I had seen someone that was running 295's at one time, but couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance.

    running some 295/70/17 now and have run some 315/70/17 and 315/75/16s. 295s are easy w/ a 3". dunno about the wheel spacers. will make the tires more likely to rub on the flares/fender/bumper.

    Thanks! I figured you would probably need to chop the cab mount? Anyone else running either size?

    Dude, thanks! I am contemplating either a full 3" kit or 6". Haven't decided on all of it yet.

    I'm runnin 295/70/17's on a 3" pro comp lift. no cab mount chop. inner fender well on front. I do rub fender flares on heavy articulation in the rear but nothing major. I am gonna swap it out this summer and go to spindles with stock coils in the front and stock billies, and an all pro expo pack in the back w/ flip kit.

    Sounds good, don't mind trimming or chopping the cab mount if necessary. I'll be purchasing new UCA's too.

    285/70R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers will rub the cab mount under compression when turning and require a cab mount chop. 295/70R17 requires a more agreesive cab mount chop through the cab mount hole. I also wanted 295 Nitto Trail Grapplers. In the end I found the amount of work to clear them for offroading was excessive. The difference in height is .39" and the difference in width is .16" total. Not much for clearance from the ground but it makes contact with all kinds of things, depending on your rims specs. The 295s also cost $100 more per set, have a lower speed rating, and weigh more, resulting in a larger decrease in acceleration, braking, and mpg.

    Many of the people who say they "clear" 295s dont really clear them... they still rub, some even on the street at full lock when backing. Also keep in mind you probably want new upper coontrol arms for alignment. This will cause the tires to move more to the rear under compression, making the problem worse.

    Your current BFG 285 is smaller than a Nitto 285 and you dont have upper control arms.

    At 305 you will knock off your fender flares under compression.

    Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought I'd share my experience with 305/70-17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I was running 285/75-16 BFG Mud Terrain KM2's, and I'm happy with the switch to the larger tires. There has been an obvious improvement in road handling and less vibration. I think this has more to do with the difference between mud terrain tires and the all terrain terra grapplers, than the size difference. They have very different tread patterns. The Nitto terra grapplers are MUCH easier to balance.


    You'd be hard pressed to find anyone with Mud terrain tires with a coilover lift that doesn't have issues with tire cupping and issues with tire balance and vibration. Move to an all terrain type tire and the difference for me has been night and day--even with bigger tires. This is probably a non-issue for those with drop bracket type lifts, but for the majority of us with various coilover lifts, switching to an all terrain tire over a mud terrain tire has made all the difference with regards to vibration issues and road handling.


    I don't have any issues with rubbing with the 305-70-17 Nittos, but I have trimmed the plastic fender well and done the cab mount chop. Also, I don't have the factory front bumper, which eliminates that from rubbing. Since all posts are worthless without pics, I'll post some comparison shots.
