    Hoangde,
Sadly, we've seen this problem before with posted, shared, but unpatented ideas. It's a shame the two of you couldn't work things out but I get it. It's a well conceived idea that was fufilled to a high quality standard so thanks to you both for the efforts. Some members are willing to read up on an idea and put together a kit while others appreciate being able to acquire something without needing some of the additional tools/knowledge/skills or drive necessary to do so. For me this was borderline and with other mods demanding attention I chose the easier path. If I have contributed to your feelings of resentment then I owe you an apology, please accept it with the sincerity with which it is offered.

I love the part where you're upset about someone allegedly leveraging your IP while bragging about supposedly circumventing DRM on a proprietary map card.

That's a pretty impressive load of BS. So, you won't backup your lies that you designed this mod or even have a Tacoma? This new claim of being a soldier is more BS. If you won't prove it, that's called stolen valor. Have your attorney look it up.
Deeds not words make all the differance. BTW, you need serious grammar help. Now get off JJ's thread.

Unless you have a Patent on that Design then ANYONE can use it. Now to get around the Patent all they have to do is modify it and then they can resell it. And from the looks like JJ did that.

True, plus this this Hoangde guy can't back up his claim to this mod. He purchased the cabling for the mod on Jan 16, 2017
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sold.458293/page-5#post-14162463
The seller Josh (USAF) started selling the cables on Oct 30, 2016 so that people could follow his mods and do the following:
--Access reverse signal input to allow switching rear view camera on when not in reverse.
--Access vehicle speed sensor input to allow passenger to input addresses and modify other settings that are normally locked out while driving.
--Access to aux audio input wires for adding second (same line) input location (i.e. center console, glovebox, back seat)
--Access to steering wheel control inputs
    --Access to remote microphone inputs

It's all there in Josh's threads, posted a full year before this Hoaxde came on the scene with his kit. I'm beginning to suspect this is some guy living in mexico trying to make a few bucks from the Tacoma group. He always posts sales ads listing San Diego, but I suspect he's not a US citizen. Also the poor grammar is a hint.

I wouldn't mind, but he is bullying others by threatening legal action and saying he developed this mod. Which is pure BS and against forum rules.
Dig through his posts, you'll see it's all ads and sales pitches.

Check the patent law bud .. prior to YOU filling a patent, if your idea/invention has been published on a public forum it’s pretty much a free for all.

To answer your questions, yes we are upset that we can't buy kits from JJ because his kit provided some extra benefits that yours did not. That isn't to say your kit is bad, but buyers have a preference and I would have bought from you if you hadn't come across the way you have. At this point all you are doing is hurting your reputation on this forum beyond repair. I for one will never buy anything from you because I don't like your attitude or your whining. Even if you were in the right, that kind of response is childish and immature. As the veteran you claim to be, I hope you would strive to rise above that kind of thing.

    To address your facts:

#1. According to the U.S. Patent Act you are not even allowed to patent this. Read subsections: (a), (f), (g). You dispute (f), but (a) and possibly (g) still disclude you from patenting. But if you really want to file a patent you can, and then you could make these arguements if you have one to back you up.
#2. He didn't return a cable to you. That's between you and him and doesn't have anything to do with the community of buyers or your "ownership" of this modification.
#3. Lots of people are in the military, some are scumbags, some are good people. Just like the civilian sector. This also has nothing to do with the community or your "ownership" of this modification.
#4. You didn't just inform JJ and let him know there might be actions against him. You threatened him with legal action if he didn't stop immediately, a baseless threat because you don't have a case. I don't blame JJ for stopping though, because going to court, even when you know your right is a pain in the ass.
#5. You have a right to post your mods and sell them for a profit, but you also can't deny someone else's rights to do the same thing just because they could steal some of your potential customers (unless you have a patent, which you don't yet.). Welcome to capitalism.
#6. Has nothing to do with...anything.

    35 USCS Sects. 1 - 376
PART II. PATENTABILITY OF INVENTIONS AND GRANT OF PATENTS

Sect.102. Conditions for patentability; novelty and loss of right to patent
A person shall be entitled to a patent unless-

    (a) the invention was known or used by others in this country, or patented or described in a printed publication in this or a foreign country, before the invention thereof by the applicant for patent, or

    (b) the invention was patented or described in a printed publication in this or a foreign country or in public use or on sale in this country, more than one year prior to the date of the application for patent in the United States, or

    (c) he has abandoned the invention, or

    (d) the invention was first patented or caused to be patented, or was the subject of an inventor's certificate, by the applicant or his legal representatives or assigns in a foreign country prior to the date of the application for patent in this country on an application for patent or inventor's certificate filed more than twelve months before the filing of the application in the United States, or

    (e) the invention was described in a patent granted on an application for patent by another filed in the United States before the invention thereof by the applicant for patent, or on an international application by another who has fulfilled the requirements of paragraphs (1), (2), and (4) of section 371 (c) of this title [35 USCS Sect. 371(c)(1), (2), (4)] before the invention thereof by the applicant for patent, or

    (f) he did not himself invent the subject matter sought to be patented, or

    (g) before the applicant's invention thereof the invention was made in this country by another who had not abandoned, suppressed, or concealed it. In determining priority of invention there shall be considered not only the respective dates of conception and reduction to practice of the invention, but also the reasonable diligence of one who was first to conceive and last to reduce to practice, from a time prior to conception by the other.

@Hoangde: You claim to be a vet... or maybe active duty? I can't tell because you have worse grammar than most 1stSgts I've encountered over the 14 years I was in the Corps. Either way, it has no relevance to your product, and it's both embarrassing and obnoxious to watch someone try foist that upon people like they owe you something for a choice you made. The "Thank Me For My Service" attitude isn't impressive, it's just sad. Your entire post reminds me of a German word - fremdschämen. Look it up if necessary.

@SilverJack: FYI, stolen valor hasn't been a thing for several years now (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Alvarez). SCOTUS struck it down bc it violated the 1st Amendment, so while it may be criticised by veterans or people who want to expose a liar, it's legally no worse than misidentifying someone's gender (offer void in CA: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...pronoun-sponsor-denies-that-would-happen.html). ;)

I regret not getting this when they were available. I just kept pushing it off so I could install the ECT and this at the same time.
