I love my new Taco, double cab TRD sport, but hate the radio. I'm not too keen on replacing the head unit and I mostly listen to my I pod. After reading the different posts hear my thoughts were. Add a JL cleansweep with the aux imput for Ipod. Replace factory speakers except for the tweeters, and add an amp. I don't want to break the bank and don't need a massage from a sub, but do like a little volume. I cruthfield the Alpine S series speakers and V power four channel amp were in my price range. Finally I am mechanically inclined but the last speakers I put in were in my 69 chev pickup in high school, can I get the doors back together without ruining the inside of my new ride. Any imput on any of this would be great. Thanks

bite the bullet and replace the factory headunit and add an amp. you will be much happier in the long run. as for your doors there are a few places that sell adapters for them which allow you to install with ease.

I recently changed out my gf's OEM radio with a Pioneer unit and swapped all four door speakers with new ones. I got the door speakers from Crutchfield and they came with the proper adapter brackets and wiring harnesses.

I used these instructions to change out the radio:
    http://www.starmanage.com/installation/tacomadash/

...and these instructions for the door speakers:
    http://www.starmanage.com/installation/speakers/index.html

    Final product here:

My gf uses her Ipod in her Tacoma and LOVES the Bluetooth for her phone.

Just take your time, don't lose any screws, and limit yourself to 2 beers and you'll be good to go!

thanks again, I will get on this soon, sort of going to be my fathers day present since my son hates the radio too. I'll get some picts during and after. did you get a unit with CD and ipod, or just Ipod?

The DEH-P7900BT comes with cd, Ipod capable (meaning you have to get the separate Ipod cable), built-in Bluetooth and is satellite capable (separate module needed). I was looking for those specific capabilities + line outs for amps, subs later on.

Before settling on this one, I read user reviews on radios that had those capabilities at different sites like bestbuy, crutchfield, circuitcity, Amazon.
