For a prerunner though - not a rock donkey build at least from how I’m interpreting what OP said.

Plenty of 4wd prerunner's going through the whoops.

Not the best mod. You can check my thread and I’m double locked 4wd but for starting a prerunner build the shock tuning and rear spring setup is best (besides new lbj’s so you don’t break your front end and waste all your money fixing shit)

For a 2wd, 4wd is definitely the best mod.

With an unlimited budget it’s ok, but I’ve seen plenty of 2wd prerunners absolutely handle stuff that people with mid travel 4x4 struggle with. Keeping wheels on the ground is better than 4x4 in the desert and if I had to choose between a good solid 2wd setup with some kind of traction device in the rear or a janky 4x4 LT front SOA rear I’d go with 2wd all day. But that’s imo. 4x4 just makes it more expensive.

Momentum is definitely your friend, but in no condition does a 2wd beat a 4wd in traction. I agree going 4wd costs a little more, but the advantages are astronomical over 2wd.

My dude stock suspension does not equal prerunner. That 4x4 would not be able hit whoops at the same speed a well built basic 2wd prerunner would be able to. 4x4 will put you at least $4000 more if you plan on going LT from a 2wd platform. Also it can be added later if someone decides they need it.

I never said anything about stock suspension. My point is a 4wd is better than a 2wd.

OP is building a prerunner man. Not a great point for someone doing that.

The LC Engineering short shift kit is pretty nice, makes a big difference and pretty cheap.

As I said yesterday, plenty of 4wd prerunning out there.
