I've heard 2011 because it was the last year before the air injection pump system, or 2015 because it's just the last year of the 2nd gen.

They are all damn good trucks, just note the 2005-06 models had issues with leaky headgaskets and failing engine mounts.

Edit: yeah I assumed you were talking second gens since you posted in this forum. But I suppose we'll never know because you've posted and ghosted?

13’-15’ models seem to be pretty solid trucks.

2014 according to consumer reports has the best ratings.

2013-2015 IMO. 2012 had issues with the air injection pump. They “fixed” part of the issue for 2013+. You should still remove the foam filter and add a UNI filter and you’re good to go. 2012-2015 also had a minor body update. I would stay away from any 2005’s as mentioned already and check the frame for rust regardless of the year.

13-15 like what a lot of people have said. I specifically wanted a 13 because is was the last year were they had the backup camera on the rear view mirror rather than the radio.

Other than the 05-06 model years with the head gasket issue any other year engine should be fine.2009 has a bad rating because of minor problems such as the radio going bad and the throw out bearing chirp. You are out of the frame warranty enhancement for 2005-2008.Running short of time for 2009 trucks.

That does look cool. How's the picture quality compared to the radio display?

2007 to 2015. If the 212 doesn't have the Secondary Air Injection Pump. My 2012 doesn't have it.

Plus, the 05s have the head gasket issue. I'm not sure if that was completely eliminated before the 2006's going into production.

My 2011 runs like a champ, has a lot of grunt. I think most all the V6's (1st Gen 3.4, 2nd Gen 4L and 3rd Gen 3.5 ) are good engines with their own sets of strength and weakness, depending on the model years. I think I can say that none of them were built for fuel economy, regardless of what advertising says.

I just wish they still had a dipstick and regular drain/fill system for the AT.

I don't understand why that got changed, unless it was to have a larger image. I mean, what do you look at when you back up? THE REARVIEW MIRROR!!, as well as actually turning your head to look at the side mirrors and area around you. Having the backup cam view in my RVM is one of the things I like best about my 2011. My wife has a Rav4 with the screen on the panel, and I hate it. Sure, the larger image has better resolution, but you don't need to see every piece of gravel or grass blade. Maybe the wives like having the moving grid that curves when you turn, so they don't have to put their cellphone or lipstick down and actually look around while backing out at the mall..

Was broken into multiple times in Portland and damaged. Surprisingly easy to fix and replace parts in all Toyota's.

Mechanically they are all same with the SAIS (Seconday Air Injection System) being the differentiation from 2005-2011 and 2012-2015. Like @ryfox0276 stated, the 05 and 06 models had issues with the headgaskets. But I would assume by now that the issue would have popped up and been resolved by now just based off the age.

I would opt for the newest you can afford to avoid any issues, especially if frame corrosion is an issue in your area.

Also, adding HPTuners and a tune wakes the truck up more than almost any other modification, even on a stock truck like mine. HPT is especially good for the 2012-2015 trucks as you can "delete" your SAIS, therefore avoiding any issues with the system. Which the SAIS pump (most common issue, especially in dusty areas) is about the same cost as HPT and you gain other benefits from HPT as well. There is a TON of info on this thread, I would skip to at least half way through since the first half is mainly talking about it's release, capabilities and early tunes. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hp-tuners-for-2005-2015.600793/
