Bestop super top on a dclb pics

Guys I got the issue quoted below figured out. It seems Bestop didn't change their kit between the Gen2 and Gen3 Tacomas. The problem is that on the gen 2 truck the top of the tailgate is about 1/2" lower than the top of the sidewalls of the box. On the gen 3 the top of the tailgate is flush with the top of the box. I had a devil of a time getting them to understand the problem and what I needed but in the end the solution is simple. Get them to send you corner brackets with part number 412.09P and 412.08P which are the left and right corner brackets that work. They have the tabs about 1/2" higher so you can install the rear bar right side up and use the provided weather strip. The fit is perfect now.

Ok the first pic is the new corner bracket installed. Notice the tab which inserts into the tail gate bar, how high it comes up.



Now below I am holding up the old corner bracket, the one that they ship with the kit. The tab is about 1/2" lower which doesn't work with the 3rd gen.

 

I just spoke with them about those part #s you gave us. They acted stupid of course and said we have never heard of this problem. I have tried to clear the back bar issue up twice with them and they don't want to fix anything. Horrible customer service. I wish I would have spent the extra money and got a supertop.

 

yes I had numerous emails going back to early June explaining in umpteen versions of the english language. They kept sending me more and more parts that I already had. Finally I just asked them to send me the corner brackets for an F150 which I knew had a tailgate level with the sides of the box. If you haven't given up call them and tell them to look at ticket #33339. They are definitely aware of the problem now.

 

Going to try to call them this week. I'll post if I have any luck

Hate to resurrect a dead thread, but I'm interested if this ever got resolved as well.

 

@WunderSlug - Sorry for the year late reply....the answer is yes if you read the post #21 I got corner brackets with the higher lip (installed in the photos) and part numbers are included if you want to double check with the manufacturer to see what they put in the kit these days. Hopefully they updated it.
