    Hey All -

I am looking at purchasing a 2016 taco - long bed / double cab.

I am an avid cyclist and am looking for ideas how to carry bikes?

I want to do the tonneau cover, and was hoping to get a rack system that fits on the bed rails.

I would use cross bars just above the cover, so the bikes are as low as possible.

We tow a trailer so a hitch rack is out, and I don't want the bikes on a roof mount above the cab - to high up.

After looking at the rails, and how the tonnneau cover fits I am wondering if it is possible to get a rack system that will fit on the rails, they look to narrow to accommodate the cover and a rack system.

Anyone ever figured out a solution for this??

    Thanks for your advice!

    How about a front hitch/bike carrier? https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...idden-recovery-bar-by-mobtown-offroad.363805/

I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a model like this for a '16 in the works.

And there is this http://www.kbvoodoo.com/shop/toyota-tacoma-outboard-bike-mount-fits-years-2005-2015. You might contact him and see if anything is cooking for the '16 as well.

On my '13 I have an Extang that I just take off, (5 minutes tops) carrying the bikes standing in the bed, wheels on. 4 fit easily.

You might poke around here a little more. I'm not sure how popular the OE Tonneau is. I could be that aftermarket would be a better choice? Dunno.

Not to fond of mounting the bikes on the front - they would be completely covered with dead bugs - and I assume it would screw up the mileage.

I will check with KB voodoo - I was hoping to have crossbars - mount two bikes on the left and right, and have a rocket box in the middle for more storage / skis etc...

In the perfect world it would be adjustable in height, so if I wanted to carry a canoe or ladders I could get them up above the cab for that purpose.

I have seen this set up for full size trucks - just not finding it for the new taco.

    Thanks again

Another option may be mobtown bed bars. No longer have the tonneau on but they work. I use them for my rtt now.

I have a few quick questions on your configuration:
    1. How well does your roll top cover keep water out of the bed area?
    2. When you remove the Yakima crossbars temporarily, are you just removing the bars and towers intact, thus leaving the landing pads in the rails?
    3. What length bars are those? They appear to be the 86" XXL round bars.
    4. How far apart are the landing pads? Looks like about 30"
Thanks! Excellent setup. I will likely go that route.

I'm looking for the same. I have the new 16 Taco with Toyota OEM Tonneau cover and looking for a bike rack either for over or the side of bed to carry my bikes
Let us know if you find a solution that doesn't break the bank
    Cheers

    1) there were two spots I had to put a bit of silicone but after that it has been great.
    2) yes, makes it easy
    3) no they were the XL that I cut to slightly under the width of the truck
    4) dang you must be an engineer cuz they were 30" apart center to center

It's a great setup and the canister is smaller than other manufacturer's covers you don't loose as much room.

If you will be getting the factory tonneau cover, here is what I did and it worked out really well. I can transport the bikes and leave the cover on.

:D Keen observer. Thanks for confirmation. Love the truck. I am likely to do something VERY similar.

If I wasn't running the basket I could have gone with shorter bars.
Nice thing with the longer bars is I can put the tire under the cover and add a couple more bike mounts and carry four bikes easy.

I have been looking at this too. I also ski and snowboard so want something that I can adjust the bar locations rather than a fixed point. Came across this
    http://bakindustries.com/p-8205-bakflip-cs-f1-tonneau-cover-rack-combo-review.html

It looked like the rails could be used to attach with gutter mounts or thule/yakima rails for an adjustable mount rather then using the taller ladder rack. I liked the idea of being able to use the whole bed when needed with the flip up cover. I emailed the company for more information because they don't have the 2016 listed for the model. Post back what you come up with. Pace edwards also has a retractable cover with built in thule/yakima attachment rails.

I was looking at the installation for this application. Did you end up drilling holes through the bed for the drain tubes? I don't think I could take a drill to my truck yet!
