Search toyotanation.com for them... Seems like there's 2 kinds out there. One made in China, one in Taiwan. The China ones are crap from what I hear. There's a thread on TN where people bought them, and reported fogging, dirt in the lens, and f'd up beam pattern. I'd seriously find that thread and read it before dropping the coin.... Or buy a $5 can of Krylon to do it yourself. Shit, I'll PM you my phone number and walk you through it if you want....

It's really more scary sounding than it is.

Just make sure the oven preheats to 300F or less, and is TURNED OFF before putting a light in. And take out any screws you can (should be 3 or 4 on the outside of the assembly). (Do one at a time) Put some card board under it so it doesn't touch the rack, burners, elements, walls, etc. No contact with the oven metal just to be safe. Pull it out in 10 minutes, and s-l-o-w-l-y pull the assembly apart.

When you paint it, let the paint cure (I did mine over night) so you don't get the vapors from the paint drying inside the lens. It fogs it up and is hard to clean.

Then silicon the edges to seal it up.

I think the biggest pain in the ass is getting to the 4th mounting bolt between the headlight and front quarter panel! There's JUST enough room to get a socket wrench in there to take it out.......It did not go back in... :D

LMAO!!!! oh how i love extra bolts!!! good one.

i get scared of doing it, then i think, hell i did the lift myself i should be able to take the headlight and grill out and put it back together! i'll prolly do it a few months.... give me a mod to look forward to. right now i am hell bent on getting a roll bar for the back hahaha

i found one on craigslist and ebay (same one, double posted) but for a dodge dakota. he said the bolt holes are 60" apart, but our bed is only about 52". i thought the taco if not the same size would be a little bigger than the dakota, don't know for sure tho.

the really nice ones are EXPENSIVE!!!

Good luck find a roll bar and have it be functional. I'm thinking you would have to drill holes through the bed and bolt/weld it to the frame for that. If you just want it for looks and to hold some lights you might be able to rig up something to mount to the rail system. Would be fairly solid, but won't help you if you actually roll it!

To the OP, do you have your truck yet? Check out this thread for some ideas... :D

    tiger,

my truck is for looks..... i have a lifted 2wd that never goes off road..... off road tires for houston freeways :D

yeah, i want the thing to be sturdy enough to not move when going 70mph when grabbing and pulling on it, that is about it..... with a light bar across the top.

You might be able to get one for another truck that would sit on the top of the bed rails, and fab up some angle brackets to go over the inside edge to line up with the tie down rails. A square metal block with a bolt through it that would fit inside those rails could attach the bracket. Maybe 2 per side and 1 or 2 on the front rail should be enough.

i just realized i think i "highjacked" this thread... poopsadaisy.... sorry

i think i measured wrong. after looking at what you suggested tiger, i looked at the one for the dakota again, it is the same way, mounts on top the bed rails, not down inside the bottom of the bed.

i measured, and the center of the bed rails is the same place as these bolt holes. i emailed the guy to see if i can go look at it. what do you guys think about this roll bar? i think it is awesome! it looks like the back "leg" is shorter? i don't know what that is all about. i wanna look at it and see if it is possible to mount or not.

i'll keep you posted. maybe i'll go highjack another thread and post up pics there :)

For the blacked out Headlights, are most using krylon flat black or the fusion paint. I was thinking the fusion in semi black gloss would be a nice color/texture if it comes this way? Going to paint the chrome grill too so really do not want flat black there for washing/waxing/bugs sake. I think a semi gloss or even a gloss woud be better in that location and of course it would look better if both the headlights and the grille matched.

To me the blacked out grill and headlights gives the Taco a "masked bandit" look! Blacked out emblems will be next also. Should give a nice contrast to the Desert Sand color.:)

Krylon Fusion is designed to bond to plastic without prep, that's why it's used.

I used Krylon Fushion Gloss Black. Worked out well. This Mod is a little timely but much better to spend a couple dollars than 200ish for aftermarkets that may have different issues.
