Looking to replace my brakes. Don’t know if I need new drums but I am looking for a brake rotor and pads upgrade for my front breaks. My rig is fairly heavy. Vendor, website, type and brand would be appreciated. I have a 2018 DCSB OFF-ROAD.

There is an interesting difference about Tacoma and 4Runner front brakes. The Tacoma rotor is 10.75 inches and the 4Runner rotor is 13.3 inches in diameter. In other words, changing over to 4Runner calipers and rotors and any other small bits an pieces would be a big brake conversion using factory parts. This might mean the use of 17" wheels though, I am not too sure is 16" will fit.

I will be looking more into this when it is time to do my first brake job on the front.

    Check out this thread:

Note the 4Runner brakes may require a master cylinder swap due to their increased volume and the 4Runner having a larger MC. The MC swap isn’t practically feasible on an OR/Pro ATRAC truck.

If you don't mind break dust, Hawk LTS pads are great.

Akebono. This was the recommendation on BITOG and I liked their performance on my G8. Good, but not aggressive, initial bite and no major performance changes across temps.

Brake pads are graded, I believe FF is the “best” grade.

Light dusting on mine, nothing bad but after a month or two of not washing you could tell there was some dust.

Rotors (for my G8) were AC Delco coated off Rock Auto. I recommend the coating, two years later and they had not rusted aggressively. Also watch your rotors the cheap metal ones can warp and rust quicker.

edit: this link went into the pad grades. Looks like GG is the highest grade and indicates good performance hot or cold

Just installed the StopTech Big Brake 6 piston Kit ($$$). The truck is now about 5,000 lbs. Brakes were fading on the trail. Kit comes with 340mm rotors vs ~320mm OEM. Not sure 16” wheels will fit. I’m running 17” 4Runner wheels.

I'd be super interested in the 4 runner swap, I love my truck but the brakes have always been lacking.

I found the thread that gave a great write up on the 4Runner brake swap

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...bk-upgrade-for-2nd-gen-tacomas.504234/page-21

I also wanted to share a post from @Jeff Lange that the 4Runner masters with the hydraulic boosters are the same size. So no master cylinder swap is needed to switch to a factory big brake kit.
