I put an 16 foot old town canoe on my OEM rack with no issue....

I just put it on for pics and will reposition it before the trip. Fits nice!

We had our annual two day canoe trip this weekend with my husband and my parents. We loaded our two 15 foot canoes on a Thule rack with 78" bars. In the past I have loaded one canoe on top and one in the bed. I thought I would get pulled over that way so I bought wider bars for this trip. Don't mind my belly, I am 6 months pregnant :)

I've got a single set of Yakima uprights in my bed and the OEM roof rack up front for carrying long boats. Positioned them so that (thanks to Yakima round bars) I can rotate the kayak saddle down and flip up my folding soft-top over the bed and almost have the best of both worlds. Only thing I can't do is have the top up and be carrying kayaks at the same time.

Are there any racks available that use the factory mounting bolts? I'd use the factory rack but the weight limit is too low for two Kayaks.

Bump to see if any new hardware is available...?

Note: New-to-me 16' traditional plastic kayak (50 lbs) on my AC, first short trip was with the Harbor Freight extender and a V foam block on cab. OK, but not ideal.
I am close to most of the water I want, so no heavy highway/high speed use.

Tracks on back makes it easy to remove/ add/ move bars as needed. Fronts stay on most of the time.

I've got a couple of those!

The rack on the topper would have prevented this. I was running my 100 lb 17 foot canoe fast down a forest service road where driving fast is a bad idea even without a boat on top of the truck - with no support behind the access cab.

i got whole set up for like $160. Found the rack on Amazon for $100 and i used the Thule hold downs so i didnt have to drill in the bed. Those ran about $50. $10 for the 1/4 inch rubber gasket i put inbetween the rail foundation and bed. Holds solid and looks good. Only downside is Its a pain in the ass to remove/install so once its on your not going to feel like taking it down for a while.

Were you able to get that dent out? If so, how did you do it? This same thing just happened to me.

I only had 2 kayaks up there when it happened. Each weighing around 60 lbs. After checking the Yakima website specs for the Q towers on my 2014, it states a 99 lb. limit.

I initially bought the Q towers setup when I had my 2004 double cab, and the Q towers are rated for 160 lbs. or so on that model.

That's a significant drop in capacity for the 2nd gen Q tower setup.

Now to look into other options for long distance kayak transport...
