So, directly above my gas tank, there's a rectangular plastic box with a lot of tubes and a wire harness coming out of it.

Is that where the charcoal canister is located??

My buddy had this problem with his ranger. Turned out to be the little foil seal from the end of a fuel treatment bottle stuck on the anti siphon screen.

    Thanks man.

I've removed and re-installed the tank, and there's definitely no obstruction. I've blown out the two vent lines, and I still can't pump gas. I need to know where that damn charcoal canister is.

I talked to a Toyota Mechanic about this yesterday and he said that there might be an obstruction in the canister that is right off of the main tube.

    Whatever that means.

Well you guys aint gonna believe this, but the problem wound up just fixing ITSELF.

I had gave up after removing the tank, checking all 27 vent lines etc etc etc. Put it all back together and started looking for a good time to take it to the shop. Next thing I know it starts accepting fuel again.

WTF, I wish all problems did this.

haha too true, i'll deal with it come spring. pretty sure when i replaced the last gas tank (previous owner had drilled two deck screws into it !) the installation pinched a line.

Dang I was hoping you found out what it was. I have just begun having this same EXACT problem. I mentioned it to someone in service shop at Toyota and the guy said he didnt know, and that I would have to bring it in. I have been dealing with it for about 5 fillups now. Im not home to bring it in to the dealer but when I do Im gonna have them look and they better be able to fix it! Ill report back here for future reference. Probably wont be for another month tho...

YES, by all means, please do update me when you get it fixed. I'm reasonably certain it must be the charcoal canister, but I'd really like to know for sure, as well as how much it costs, etc.

I can still add fuel to my tank pretty much normally, BUT, the fuel nozzle tends to not shut off in time, so if I'm not careful I get a gasoline eruption from the neck when the tank reaches full.

I don't have time to read the whole thread right now but I had this same problem... Pulled the bed and all lines and low n behold the problem was a small paper/plastic disk from the top of an injector cleaner bottle down again the screen at the bottom of the filer neck!
