I’ll stick with the gold standard of no catch can. Doesn’t mean the alternate of having one is inferior, but the only way to validate a catch can’s purpose is a large study of vehicles without catch can as control group and vehicles with one as experimental and then inspect after however many long term miles. Until that happens I’ll hold on to my $80 or so. Anecdotal “my engine looks great after X miles” is simply that, a personal experience that you can choose to put your faith in or not. Too many variables.

But I don’t doubt they collect some grimey shit, it’s just wether or not that is significant at all.

Plenty of Toyota’s driven to extinction without one.

They are not beneficial, but also they don't really hurt anything. Assuming you don't eff up the install and cause a vacuum leak or forget to empty them.

Catch cans are a part that is useful on some engines that is mostly misapplied to a stock Tacoma. These engines use port injection and as a result they don't suffer from valve deposits/sludge the way a direct injection engine might (catch cans can help in a direct injection engine and some direct injection engines come with catch cans stock). And there is no intercooler on a stock Tacoma for vapors to condense in and reduce its effectiveness.

Now if you've added a charger to the engine then a catch can might make some sense. Or if you have replaced the engine entirely with something that is direct injection. Otherwise it really isn't doing anything.

Again - it certainly won't hurt anything. If you enjoy emptying a can of milky condensates that only condensed *because* you added the catch can (without the catch can they combust in the cylinders as intended) by all means go ahead. Your engine won't last any longer though. But many folks feel good looking at the can of condensates thinking "my god am I happy that I didn't have that end up in my engine" even though all that stuff was in their engine to begin with - just as vapor.

So do whatever you want. Nothing wrong with installing one. At least unlike a lot of other mods it won't hurt anything!

Plenty of trucks run for a loooong time without them. No real evidence that the catch can will make my truck run any longer than all the other major parts and pieces will last.

I'll leave well enough alone and save that money for beer, bullets, or gas.
