What tool do I need to buy to read CEL codes on my 2002 V6? Where do you find what the codes mean?

    Thanks,

    Don

I just bought this one and it works fine. It's an el cheap o, but I used it on my 2000 Tacoma and my 97 Accord. It comes with a book that has the codes in it, but I would bet you could look up any code on the internet once given the number.

One thing you may want to make sure of, is that 2nd gen Tacomas use OBD II. I think they do, but not sure. Someone else on here may know.

Every car manufactured in the US after 1996 uses OBD-II.

I personally use an app on my old Droid paired with a bluetooth OBD-II reader. It acts like a scanguage under normal driving and if a code gets thrown it will read and display it.

Just a bunch of old crap
I'm very happy with my Ultra Gauge and it was only $70 shipped. I trust it and I know others on here do, too. I haven't thrown any codes yet, but I like all of the different screens it provides and I know I won't have any lag/disconnects from a bluetooth connected device (I would love to have a reliable one to use with my DroidX, but haven't quite found the most reliable model yet)

anyone know of a bluetooth code reader for the iPhone? I have a 1992 w/ long travel that I use for racing and I often throw codes. (so I probably need an OBD-I right?) It would be great to have a bluetooth code reader plugged in all the time and have it pop codes right up on my iphone.

    thanks in advance!
