What I mean is probably the right word would be activate it. The salesman tried to activate the SOS but because I did not want to register to the Toyota app and give them my SIN numbere etc etc. I just did not want to be bothered with the phone app this way I won't be constantly being texted by Toyota for maintenance and other annoying stuff.

Read post #62 & #64(kinda long). These have been my experience so far. With all "Connected Services" waived, the SOS light is dark. In which case my remote start with key fob would not work. The dealer tech couldn't even fix it. Toyota has some kind of link with the truck & with all services waived, it doesn't work. As soon as I opted back into the trial period, green light on the SOS & remote start with fob back to working.

Back then, I paid $200 for the alarm and $110 for 2 window modules. I don't recall the cost of the dball2 that's needed to bypass the key fob sensor. Each pair of doors requires 1 module. Not sure what labor would be since I did it myself. I do know I spent 18 hrs on the install because of how complex the wiring is. I spent hours studying the wiring schematics before I attempted to do it and then spent lots of time triple checking before I cut wires. I soldered all my connections too. I think I was quoted $7-800 in labor. It was a new truck back then, so many shops in my area hadn't done it before. I wasn't willing to risk going to best buy cuz of the horror stories I read.

Sounds like a pain to do. I'm not well versed in electronics ethier so I definitely won t attempt this install.

There is no programming the fob to control the windows. You'd need an aftermarket module to control your windows from a fob.

I see videos on utube showing how to open with a FOB on 4 Runner from 2010-2021 so why would it not be able to be programed on our Tacomas. There is also a video of someone with a laptop programing the FOB for opening and closing windows not on a Taco but on prious, corolla. So it can be done. I will find out for sure when I go to the dealer soon.

Because the Taco is not a 4Runner. The only way your Taco fob will operate the windows is with an aftermarket module.

We kinda hijacked this thread - if you want to continue this window discussion, you can revive one of these old threads:

So glad I came across this thread. I was already looking at aftermarket remote start for when my trial subscription runs out. Now I’ll wait to see if it continues to work afterwords. BTW it took me a couple tries to get the timing right, but it eventually started.

Hey there are a lot of us who are waiting for the same results after the trails are over. I never signed up for the free trial but it works.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Just tried it successfully tonight on my '21 TRD OR AC. It's not something I would use often, but it's nice to know it works.

With Winter here just thought I would throw this in especially those with the TSSP that if there is any kind of snow or ice on the front of the truck on the Emblem that the truck will not start with the FOD till you clear it. Just found that out this morning as we had freezing rain and could not figure out why it would not start. I mean the lights flashed ok on the first two click but would not on the third. After several tries I gave up hoping maybe there was something wrong like a dead battery etc etc. Went out go in the truck and it started so battery was ok but I noticed on the multi-information display that there was a warning or animated saying pre-collision system off and that was stopping the truck from being started with the FOD.
So if this ever happens just clear off the ice or snow on the front and the windshield covering the sensor and camera.
Hope this was helpful if no just wanted to mention it just in case some smart ass remarks comes out of here.

After disabling DCS I am unable to use remote start. Explain to me why my truck needs an internet connection for the fob to remote start? F-ing Toyota... very disappointed with this

When I called & waived all services & trials, this was my same experience. No DCM connection, SOS light dark, no remote start with key fob. Called them a few months later & reactivated the trial, then had DCM, green SOS, & working remote start. Bull crap....

My 2021 Trail Edition has a key start. I'm guessing this truck only applies to push button starts?

I confirmed with Toyota that the remote start feature from the fob is based off of the monthly ($8) or yearly ($80) subscription. Most 2021's probably still have the free trials active so you are not paying at the moment. But did speak directly to Toyota and confirmed that the feature will not work if you do not have the subscription active.

Personally this is incredibly frustrating to find out for something we can all install without paying a subscription for. I understand the mobile app function but the fob? Come on Toyota! Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Greedy Toyota...
