I had went with the same 5100/886 setup for my truck after my Icons started leaking. My main reasoning was my budget, since I wasn't working while finishing up my degree. That was about a year ago. So far, I HATE this setup. Yes, they have performed well on several off-road trips but this setup is way to harsh for my daily driving. Tomorrow I will be installing a new set of Radflo 2.5 extended travel coilovers. I feel these will be well worth the money spent when it comes to ride quality/comfort and performance. Plus they have a 12 month warranty.

Why didn't you just rebuild the Icon's instead of going with the 5100's?

Two reasons. 1.) Budget, at the time I could not afford to ship them to Icon and pay for them to be rebuilt. 2.) They only had about 20,000 miles on them after their first rebuild. This was upsetting to me and that when I discovered that a few people had been having similar problems. I decided to sell them to cover the cost of the 5100/866 setup.

ADS also makes extended travle that roughly measures (with my tape measure) 22.5 w/ 5" of travel and they are built with race performance parts not high production cheap off the shelf stuff.
Oh, and they build some saweet rear shocks too.

This is my front tire off the ground, max droop. Ps this was with my Diff locked too, I had three tires spinning free. Made it through though, kept up with fully built JK's through some serious stuff!

I am considering coilovers I currently have ome and it keeps topping out I just want to be sure with fox 2.0 or 2.5 I will get more down travel then I do now, any suggestions?

Besides the OME, what else do you have?

Adding an extended travel 2.5 paired with an Upper arm will definitely get you more down travel.

    Are you set on Fox?

I can get you a great price on King!

    Let me know!

Do u have top plate spacers with the OMEs and what spring are u running? I had 885 with .5" top plate on both and they topped out all the f'n time. I should of got 884. The top plate shouldn't make much of a difference in ride but it gives u almost the same drop as extended COs. Lower the spring size and add a .5" top plate.
I ended up going with ADS (Awesome Damn Shocks :D) extended travle COs and it's been night and day. U get what u pay for.

I think the main question you're asking is that it looks like the King/Icon kits give you more travel, so is there enough of a difference in performance of a extended shock paired with a UCA, vs. a +2 mid travel kit? At this point, I'd say no. Either go with the extended kings/Icon, or go full +3 LT. The shock companies have almost bridged the gap and made the replacement coilovers cycle almost as much as the TC mid travel kit.

For myself, I wasn't able to cycle the suspension, because I didn't want to take my shock apart, but I did gain 2" of droop with the Icon setup. So expect a tad more with the King extended shocks.

I have 884 springs. I just went ahead and bought king extended travel with adjustment knobs through JT@Bajakits, spend the money and do it right should have them in 2 or 3 weeks

Thanks for answering! After reading this thread and still looking for more information, I found a thread on Ori struts that BAMF sells. They give you as much travel as is physically possible with our lcas and a well designed balljoint uca, and at a good price point. Pretty much exactly what TC advertises with there +2" kit I think I will be going that route! For those interested: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ori-struts-available-from-bamf.256976/

Thanks for this thread-it got me headed in the right direction!

Well, they've run King of the Hammers without them blowing a seal, and while it could happen, the seals are rated for around 5k psi, so unlikely. And I may just carry an extra Bilstein with me as backup.

Or who knows, maybe I'll just do a SAS/SAC and really get the flex I want.

Measured from center of hub to fender, the length fully extended is about 25.75". I haven't had a chance to measure fully compressed.

41.5" Wrap Around Eco-Light LED Light Bar - $215 Using the ZROADZ Bracket - $175 31.5" Eco-Light Bumper LED Light Bar - $150 with a modified bumper mount SST Lift Kit (Leveling Kit) 3" Front and 2" Rear - $350 Custom Light Switch (The switch powers both light bars) - $20 4 BFG All-Terrain TAKO2 LT275/70 R17 - $930 (with hazard insurance and installed) These tires are on the stock (17x7) rims and I have absolutely no rubbing. Replaced the Standard hood with the Sport Hood (with scoop) and painted matching color - $1050 What do y'all think?
OK, I'm a little late to the party and after reading this, I'm not sure I'm any closer to making a decision. I currently have only put on an SST Lift Kit (Leveling Kit) 3" Front and 2" Rear on my 2016 SR5 4x4. It looks great but I took it on a very mild trail. Almost ever decent bump gave me that "thump of extension", if you know what I mean. (No down travel at all) I didn't think that it would affect me that much, but damn, even the speed bumps at 15 MPH?

I am trying to "mod on a budget" but the leveling lift is worrying me. It can't be healthy for my truck.

So, my question to you all..... (yes, I have read most of the suspension discussions but I'm not a very mechanical kind of guy. I need a little tutoring.)

I off road about 5% of my monthly travels. No rock climbing or extreme trails. I live in the desert (rocky sand, not powdery sand) but it can get wet during certain seasons. I have about a grand to spend. From what I gather from the posts, if I change out my shocks and leveling kit for say... Fox 2.0 performance coil overs, I would lose about .5" of lift and without changing the UCA, I would still get that crappy down travel.

Again, with about a grand ($1600 if I eat ramen and hotdogs for a while (which I'm willing for my truck)), no desire to ever have to rebuild a shock in the future, not losing too much lift since I'm running 275 70 R17 BFG AT KO's, and will need someone to install for me...... What would Y'all suggest?

I have king extended travel coilovers and I don't have that problem anymore, I would imagine fox 2.0 would be okay, fox 2.5s offer extended travel
