I pulled it out, that's as far as it would go, then I tried to jam it back in there and it won't go. So bad in what way? Am I gonna get screwed trying to put new CV axle in?

You mentioned in the post before last that you left the wheel on while trying to shove the axle back in. You have to take the wheel off and remove the end of the axle from the hub so it looks like this

    DSC02855_078be6d1e2ec67b240097ddb33e37f24fadbc3cc.jpg

then put the axle nut back on the end, and tap it back into the diff with a hammer. Sometimes you have to rotate the axle a bit to find the sweet spot where it wants to go into the diff.

(pic above is a 1st gen Tacoma but same idea)

That is the way I do it.
Except the 2nd Gen has 2 big bolts for the lower ball joint. The axle nut is 35mm I think?

Watch the brake lines and ABS sensor wire. Unbolt or unhook if needed.

I think the LBJ bolts are like 118~ ft/lb
And the axle nut is like ~175 ft/lb
It’s been a bit since, so you should double check those figures.

The same shit everyone else has.
Axle won’t slide in the whole way unless the C clip is at the 12 o’clock position

Are you trying to put that old CV back in, or do you have a new one? Is this a temporary fix, or permanent?

I would say you probably want a new CV, plus a new OEM seal, plus a full drain and fill of the gear oil to make this a permeant fix. And as you already found out, clean the hex plug out real good with a pick or something before you try and loosen it.

If oil is not dripping out it means the bearing is no longer in an oil bath like it should be. You 1000% should do a new axle, seal and bearing. The rust, corrosion and pitting on the axle shaft is just going to destroy the new seal.

Okay, I gotta another question....why does my passenger side look all good, the CV axle, upper and lower ball joints, tie rod, sway bar? Drivers side everything looks all mashed!

It is not actually necessary to disconnect the CV from the wheel hub in order to remove the CV from or reinsert into the diff.

CV axle definitely one of those parts not to scrimp on. Fit, quality of the boot, construction? All variables that could add up to a short axle life. Don't scrimp on the axle. Suggestions: If you don't want OEM, try getting Cardano from Rock Auto. Generally well made stuff.

My 2014 had a dry steering knuckle and was hard to steer so I soaked it in WD-40 gel lubricant spray and it steers like a new truck again. I found the steering issue by searching this forum.

Possibly the previous owner had them replaced.
But depending on how long it was this way?
It might be a good idea to inspect the other axle.

No, I'm not driving it. I got a Jeep also!
I'm going to attempt to do this myself.
CV axles, ball joints, tie rods, control arms, possibly differential on my bucket list!
