This is true, though I don't think it's that substantial. Bump your odometer miles by the percentage that your new tire is larger than the stock tires, and then do your mpg calculations. It won't be much. Upgrading from 245 75 to a 265 75 only gets you 3% - 9 miles on a 300 mile tank of gas, but it's a difference nonetheless. The question is, which OEM tires is the odometer set to at the factory? I doubt they're setting each odometer to each truck based on the wheels it's delivered with (SR5, TRD OR, TRD SPRT). So how accurate is the bump? Anyone care to guess?

Well as far as the 16" sizes go, both 245/75 and 265/70 are less than 0.5% different, and I'd be inclined to think that's the ballpark they started with back in '05.

Here, a link to make things easier to calculate

how long are your trips? I've been getting horrible gas mileage because almost all my driving so far have been short trips, in cold weather, on hilly roads. Unfortunately I dont get to let the engine fully heat up on each trip I make. I'm lucky if I get 15.5 out of a tank with the trips i'm taking.

Regardless, I also conducted a few experiments with how I drive as well. I went a few tanks not letting the tachometer get over 2k RPM unless I had to, and the result was more MPG. There are many, many factors that go into how engines perform...

you really have to get out and measure it to tell. when i went to 285's i thought i was getting horriable mileage until i went out and figured out that i was going somewhere b/w 1.1 and 1.2 miles per every mile on the odometer.

i thought i was getting like 14 to 15, but after recomputing baised on the
difference i was getting 17 to 18. maybe more, i just multiply by 1.1 per mile driven.

Use a gps to help gauge your speedo? But I'm not sure how accurate the gps can be vs a tire.

My idea for you is to use the "search" function. But once you do it's not going to come up with anything because there isn't anything out there to really stop anyone from getting shitty gas mileage. The only thing that seems to do the trick is to let off on the gas and keep the RPMS under 2000 if you can.

Some have already stated but it sounds like bad spark plugs.

Worth checking a few posts back can't remember for sure the article but the thermostats are known for sticking and causing comp issues in fuel air mixes. I need to check my FJ cause it just went from about 320 per tank with mostly in-town driving and all of a sudden 251 per tank. Nothing changing. gauge read about the same hard to tell if it moved at all, but gas went someplace.

Larry, good point. I'd hate to think I have to change plugs and filter every oil change.

My fuel mileage was from one tank getting like almost 300 in town and round about, barely any highway miles at all. Then it went straight to 254 or 252 whatever, I said earlier. So, I'm willing to go to the thermostat issue due to the reaction this one fella had with his FJ. His was like that. Today I filled up right at 229.5 and it took on right at 15 gals.

So, I will find out soon enough. hahaha

No question the corn fuel lowers mpg's

Makes no sense, but what does when it comes from DC?
