Im not sure if I am alone on this but I was sick of replacing my plastic rad every 6- months. Champion makes an all aluminum direct replacement and I thought I should share it in case anyone else felt the same way about those plastic ones. My buddies fit right in and mine is on its way! Heres a link http://www.championradiators.com/product/CC1778

For 4-bangers only? Or have you tried with the 3.4L V6?

Verify your height before you buy, but if the core is 18-3/4 your good to go compatible with both, they had a 20" core version as well. should still work may just have to drill new holes in rad brackets.

I’m running the CC1998 on my 01 4runner and it’s a direct replacement but it does take more coolant than stock.
It fit fine in my 4runner but I read somewhere that it does make contact with the Tacoma’s hood however

Stock fan. Still running a b&m trans cooler too.

I don’t notice significantly cooler temperatures, but knowing I’ll never have to replace my radiator is really nice

The cc1778 is the Tacoma model and the cc1998 is the 4Runner model. If you put the 4 runner model
in the Tacoma I'm guessing it will hit the hood.
Ebay sells them for 207.00 free shipping,
I'm probably going to get one!!
There should be a group buy on these somewhere

    And. Well.
We don't think you have any friends with this radiator. And we've started to recently develop the opinion you may not have any friends.

    Kindest Regards.

That was me. I was running the cc1998 4runner radiator in my 99 Tacoma. The cap hits the hood support, and the front top edge of the radiator does rub the front edge of the hood. I hit deer the other week and the radiator got the worst of it. I'm going a different route now.

Ok, I'm curious, why would you use the 4 runner model instead of the Tacoma model cc1778 in your tacoma? Your going a different route because?

Well, at the time, there was no tacoma radiator. For my application, I had to have the inlet and outlet moved and the filler neck.

I decided that I wanted to find a better option that didn't require modifications.

I've run two of their radiators, a 280zx that was too small and the 4runnet one. Neither one showed any signs up giving up. Infact, the 4runner radiators lower tank took a direct impact from.a deer I hit. Bent the radiator back and struck the oil filter on my 2uz. The radiator is all kinds of twisted, but never leaked a drop. I don't have any complaints..

As far as "extra cooling", once the engine is up to temp, your coolant temp should never go below the thermostat temp.
