Got the truck re-aligned this morning after the new struts and tie rod ends and everything feels great. Caster is still not in spec, but it's on stock UCAs and drives fine, so I'm happy.

I also haven't heard the rear end clunk in over a week. I'm going to try greasing the rear leafs again to see if that's causing them to rotate/shift.

    Bad news...

The clunk is back. Same situations, same driveway will cause the clunk.

Now I'm trying to answer the question...What happens while/after swapping the front suspension that cause the clunk to go away at first, and then return?

Having swapped the front coils out/in gives me a lot of info about the parts. The ones I didn't swap out have to be ok since the clunk went away for a while. LCA, UCA, swaybar, etc can be considered "fine". In fact, they should all be "ok" since the clunk did go away.

Loose nuts and bolts that were retightened when I reassembled and have now come loose again? Possible but not likely as I torqued everything trying to fix the clunk before swapping coils. This one is frustrating because it's the least likely because I checked them all, but most likely from a logical standpoint.

Sanity check? Am I confused and not seeing it?

Did you replace or do anything with the rubber bushing between the coils and the top plate? I did an absurd amount of research trying to figure out what was causing the noise on mine and quite a few forums mention this. Apparently even getting a small amount of grease on it can cause it or the coil to move when the suspension cycles. Sometimes it makes a creaking noise and sometimes it makes a pop or clunk noise. Some sites say lube it and some say glue it. I'm not really sure what the pros and cons are to each but I'm leaning towards gluing mine in place.

I didn't do anything special to the bushing on the strut. No grease, no glue. I guess I could mark the coil and spring and see if it's rotating.

Is it more of a squeak or clunk when going over stuff? I chased down what sounded like a squeak over bumps for a long time and traced it down to be my radiator support bushings just being garbage and shifting over bumps.

It may be best to take pictures of all this stuff and see if we can notice the both shock areas in detail etc. Etc. You get my point?

So did you not change out your LCA bushings? You need a camera or a go pro to rig up, and go into the same driveway that is causing the clank. Get it on camera and swap them out.

Definitely not a squeak. Clunk/pop/knock are my best descriptions.

Right on. I'll climb under there and shoot a video and get some pics.

I did not change the LCA bushings. The more I paid attention to it, it doesn't line up with LCA bushing symptoms. Plus, it was gone for about 10 days and I hadn't don't anything to the LCAs.

I haven't tried to even figure out why mine does it, but it's just like yours. Only does it if the wheel is turned slightly and not over any big bumps. Just small bumps. I am gonna say fuck it and just upgrade the front. I don't see how adding a new fucking coil assembly up front is going to cause all this clunking.

Me neither. If I didn't have a wedding to pay for this year I'd get new UCAs, ball joints, bushings, LCAs and any other random thing. Probably not the best approach either way, haha.

I have new UCA's as well. It was fine for a month or so then bingo there it is. I do mostly highway anyway so I don't here it often. But the other day I was going through a Parking Lot that still had some icy bumps in it. And all you could feel and hear was clunk clunk clunk til I hit flat ground. Really fucking annoying is all I can say.

One can never have too many light bars.
check the slip yoke. It clunks when under greased from the factory. It a common issues with tacomas and its covered under the 60K.

Its where the driveshaft connects to the rear differential. I brought it to the dealer due to the clunk thinking it had something to do with the brakes re adjusting or something but it ended up being the slip yoke.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tsb-list-for-2005-toyota-tacoma.7107/

    Its T-SB-0250-12
On here it says 2wd from 2005-2012 but the pdf is out of date. It effects both 4wd and 2wd from the 2nd Gen. Mine started doing it at about 30K and Toyota replaced the entire driveshaft at 35K for free.

I can feel it right under my feet on the drivers side and in the steering wheel.
