    Hey there TW!

I just installed some fox 2.5s and got her all buttoned up. The coilovers came adjusted for 1" lift over factory. Obviously I want to go more, This is where my question comes from.

Fox recommends using a spring compressor before adjusting the preload ring. Problem is the coilovers are on the truck and it would be a pain to remove them from the truck over and over again to adjust. The body of the shock looks too close to the coil to even fit a spring compressor on them..

Can I get away with taking all the weight off the front end, and using a spanner wrench to adjust? or is the compressor necessary? whats everyone doing? any tips for me?

I've been waiting on my Fox 2.5's since early October... still not built yet lol. How long did it take you from Ordering to arrival?

Ahh damn, I was talking with the Headstrong Rep at the Rock n Brews TW meet a couple weeks ago and she said she had a set lying around ready to ship. I had already ordered mine long ago and got a employee discount so it was worth the wait, but I guess you got that set she was mentioning. How do they feel? I cant wait to get mine.

BTW in regards to your adjustment issue. There is a way but its sketchy to say the least. You can buy or rent a spring compressor tool at auto zone or pep boys and they can work, but if they slip or you don't do it correctly they can be very dangerous (once you see one you will understand) . Take them off and take them to a suspension shop and they can adjust them in 5 minutes or less. Those shocks are worth having a shop do it correctly.

These are what I am talking about. It "can" be done. I'm sure most would advise against this method though.

No need for a spring compressor. Just spray the collar and lower spring mount with WD40, don't be shy. Jack up the truck to take all the load off and if you have a remote resi I would highly recommend a 5/16 hole punch from harbor freight $8 5 piece set. 5/16 is a perfect fit which wont ruin the holes like i previously did with an allen wrech i had laying around. I would also recommend not buying the $50 fox spanner wrench because it's useless with remote resis. (FYI ignore the pic with the excessive amounts of preload bc it was lifted to 4")20161104_125054.jpg 20161104_125044.jpg

I just used a L shaped tool similar to a hole punch but it has more leverage on it to spin the collar around the shock body. Screw the spanner wrench. Those suck. Just take the weight off as previously mentioned and go to town. WD-40 if your coilovers are a little rusted out to really smoothen things up.

I'll try the 5/16 tomorow and see how that works. Looks like it'll be a winner.

Worked flawlessly. Think I paid $6 for the set at harbor freight. I've used the fuck outta that punch. Especially useful if you have the resivor hoses in the way.

Yup don't waste money on the spanner, also beware of hole punch as I got a tapered one and it broke in one of the holes. Can't get it out:annoyed:

On this pic with the amount of threads showing on the coilovers. how much lift did that give you?

I think this is the best approach. I have kings on mine, but if you want it easy then spray some PB/WD 40 to get some lube. I normally do mine with two punches...one being the straight punch from king, the other is their T-handle that is made to adjust with resi lines. You could get the T-handle for your inventory as it does provide some good reach for hard areas. If you got two punches working, man it really does the job!
