I definitely agree. As someone studying mechanical engineering, its kinda scary the amount of people that are interested in automotive fields and have very little practical application with anything related. Tinkering is how I figured out a lot of the application stuff and that seems to get lost in the sauce with most students, while I think its a really important part of being a good engineer

I love learning about how things work and tinkering so it sort of dumbfounds me when people don’t bother to even try to learn more about a subject before they attempt to do it.

I just ran into that situation yesterday.

    Here and here.

Me too, love taking crap apart. Don't know why eveyone interested in MechE isn't always taking random crap apart, its so fun haha

I met someone at an internship that was dumbfounded about how a flat belt could stay on a crowned pulley without it flying off left or right because there was no side supports like a V belt, and he was a junior in an automotive eng program from another school. To be fair, belt tracking on a crowned pulley is certainly a cool principle, but it took a lot of convincing for them to believe it was even possible lol

That’s some pretty basic physics level stuff though, he should have been able to understand that concept. Although in his defense, they’re not common in the automotive world (at least to my knowledge).
Most bandsaws work on that same principle too.

My old job outfitted us with Klein exclusively, I got to keep it all when I left. Excellent quality on the screwdrivers and nut drivers, all rubber handles.

    Never tried Southwire (might now)

Are the Klein from HD lower quality? I have not been terribly impressed by their Phillips drivers.

Best luck for me? (older) Pratt-Read and Wera brands

Wiha has been my go to for a few years now. Have their regular screwdrivers, insulated set, and a "master" set of the precision screwdrivers.

Im also a fan of the old craftsmen screwdrivers. The like yellow/red handled ones

Seems like it always comes down to Phillips vs. Phillips

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I would ask here. I hated my last grease gun. Look on Amazon and there and a lot of generic ones that have a lot of crappy reviews.

I am the type to buy quality tools. Pay once, cry once.
I will use it mostly on my driveshaft and jba uca

    Thanks in advance

Lincoln 1134 heavy duty grease gun has been my go to for a hand held option. Used it for years with no issues

My M12 grease gun is my main one these days though. If you have a battery system (DeWalt, Milwaukee, ect) might be an option.

The lock-n-lube coupler is a great addition as well

Ive been thinking about this too, all the auto parts store ones I’ve had leak grease everywhere so I just throw them away after a use or two. I’ll have to look at the m12 one.
