Can confirm that PT398-35160 (TVIP V5) is plug and play on 2017 Tacoma. There was no need to enable GBS with tech stream, and hood jumper connector is already installed. My Tacoma has the factory alarm, so this just adds GBS to factory alarm.
But if you don't have factory alarm it looks like this module will also act as the alarm, and you WILL need tech stream to enable. (But someone else will need to confirm that).

Did you have to do the hood switch dummy connector?

How difficult was it? In the pdf posted earlier there are things like "plug in the V5 8P white connector", "locate the vehicle's 5P connector", "disconnect the vehicle's 26P connector". How hard is it to identify those? It's a little bit of a maze down there.

The hood connector is not a "dummy" connector if you have the factory alarm. So you don't install the jumper that comes with the kit.
Finding all the connectors is easy, and you can't get it wrong as all connectors are unique. Took about 5 mins to install once you have the dash panels out the way.

I have a 2020, did the install and can't seem to get it to work. I have the sensitivity up to 7 on the module. At first I installed the connector that came with the kit to replace the "dummy". It makes no difference if either of them is installed. My truck does have the factory alarm. Any idea?

Assuming you are following the testing instructions correctly. What are you tapping the window with? Try tapping the window with something that makes more of a metallic sound, like the end of a screwdriver (the handle end).

Your keys? Hopefully not car key as your keyfob needs to be far enough to away for the system NOT to register it, it won’t go off if it’s too close. Try setting it to 12, try something other than keys, install instructions were quite detailed on testing / checking if I remember correctly.

I recently had two buddies here in Denver get their glass broken and items were stolen. Apparently, auto theft is up 400%, and break-ins are up 1000% here in the Denver area, so I will definitely be installing this on my truck, just texted my buddy at the dealer to get it ordered!

few questions for you if you don't mind:

    - did you get your gbs to work in your 2020?
    - was your gbs part number the PT39835160 one?
    - did your truck come with the oem alarm system?

my 2020 tacoma has the oem alarm and i'm just making sure this gbs will work in it before buying it... thanks for any help!

I got it to work correctly, same exact part number. My truck did come with the factory alarm system. I set the gbs to 7 and tapped the window with my house keys while having the smart key far away from the truck. Make sure that you leave the plug by the hood on if you already have something plugged in to it. Some trucks use the dummy plug there. No techstream was needed.

It has no light. What sensitivity did you set the GBS? Smart key has to be away and truck has to be locked. Tap the glass with keys.
